Can you tell us more about what your plan is with your dobe? What do you want to do with them? What are your experiences? What are you looking for? all of it is helpful in recommending breeders.

There are two breeders in MN that the MN Doberman Rescue Group get A LOT of dogs from (I should say, they get the dogs from owners who got them from those breeders). Need I say more? I don't have any knowledge about WI though.

I wish you huge amounts of luck though. Dobes are the best. No matter where you get your dog, you own it to him/her to invest all that you have/can to make them the best dog they can be.

At age 17, in the 80's I had a Doberman as a family pet.
Our first family pet was a Boxer in 1996-2003
Second Boxer 2003-2010
We had to put our second Boxer down in May. Both were family pets, both lived 7 years. Both had irreversible health issues. First Boxer an in-operable tumor, Second Boxer liver issues. The first was not registered. The second from a breeder that showed in Canada.
We love the Boxer temperment and stature but have decided to change breeds due to the short lived Boxers we have experienced. A change desired would be a similar temperament and we love the sense of security and appearance of a Doberman.
Also, we live in a neighborhood with lots of kids, it's important to have a great temperament and priority is to social this new pup with lots of play days with the neighbor kids, being our children are young adults. Obiedience Training will be at the top of our list for my husband and I.
Being I sense the need of a reputable breeder in MN, breeding may be something we would consider on a very small scale, with much thought. This would all be new for us and much feed back, loads of research, and any guidence would be appreciated.
At this point we are researching breeders and would appreciate any links or leads out there.
Thank You all for your input. Please advise!

Its a long road to become an ethical breeder. If its really something you think you might be interested in you should probably start going to shows and meeting breeders. Learn as much as you can about showing, the standard, and the breed. You'll need a good mentor to help start you in the right direction.

The following is a link to a good sticky on the forum with helpful information about breeding, breeders, and the difference between ethical and back-yard-breeders (BYB).

Interesting chart drawn up by a Dobe lover: A COMPARISON OF: Responsible Hobby Breeders and Backyard Breeders/Irresponsible Breeders

Essay by a Colorado-based Weimaraner fan, but applicable to most any AKC-registered breed: Colorado Weimaraners

Hope you find these links useful.

I don't know to many in Wisconsin, but if you do not care whether the breeder is a conformation person I happen to work for a woman who has been breeding wonderful working dogs since the 1980's, many of her dogs are schutzhund titled, and some are now becoming agility titled. I have the great pleasure to spend most everyday surrounded by her dogs, and I must say they are a joy! There is not a single one without wonderful drive to learn, please, and accomplish things as well as be at your side with love and devotion. She also happens to be a vet, and does her own docking and wonderful cropping. Good luck on your search!

$5 this poster is Dynasty Dobermans.

*sigh*

It's just disgusting when vets are the ones breeding down dogs. You'd think if they really care about the animals, they'd be concerned with proper and ethical breeding practices.

ETA...I notice prospective puppy buyers have to contact them even to get a flippin' pedigree. Wow, don't break your back providing people with information about your pups so they can do their own proper research.

I suppose Wyatt and Yankee are ready for 'adoption' too...

All of our "retired" dobermans are Fully trained in obedience & Schutzhund (protection work). They are loving dogs who are now just relaxing and enjoying the rest of their lives. If you would like to know more please contact Dr. Limpach:

I am no Dynasty dobermans, I work for her. And wyatt and yankee are not for sale, they ARE as the site says living out the rest of their lives with her. As far as wicca, she was sold as a baby to a good friend of hers with him having the known intent that she would want to breed her. Astro has actually passed and the age needs to be updated but was sold as a baby also. Preben was a return at an older age due to family issues and then rehomed. She does occasionaly rehome seniors if she feels she does not have the time for them.
And im sorry BRW1982 but just because she does not have 17 pages of pedigrees and information does not mean she is a terrible person, she prefers to talk to any, even mildly interested, buyers herself, whether over the phone or in person. She fully health tests and all of her dogs are titled or on their way to being titled in a working sport, INCLUDING many she has sold. Please explain to me where you see that she is breeding down her dogs?

DobeJazz, Please tell me who you think you have met? =)
