Sammers, I just found the name of it on google, Nutri-Vet. (I'm traveling, so I can't go to the cabinet to see!). Amazon stocks it believe it or not!

Hello, Jake is doing great! In the end we had to get Mitiban dips done. He has gone through 6 dips and two round of tests on liver. His tests so far have come back as good with no damage and we have got the mange under control. He finally looks good!!! He's now almost 8 months old and is doing great!

Thanks so much for your advise. We have decided to take him to second Vet. We have only been using the shampoo for two days but I am hopeful. Thanks so much for replying you have helped calm my fears!

Hmmmm . . . is it generalized democodosis? Because as I understand it, the mites do not jump and do not infest humans and you wouldnt need to keep her away. That is what my vet told me adn we've been going to him for over thirty years.

So in short, yes her spots started disappearing rather quickly, but it was a slow process. And we didnt have to keep anybody away from her. Go see another vet though, you may have other options for Jake's treatment.

Well, it did start to improve rather quickly. The shampoo worked, but they also put he on Ivermectin and an antibiotic to help her fight off the mites. I would hesitate doing the dip - my vet said it could damage the liver. Maybe you could take him to another vet for a second opinion? It wouldn't hurt and could be beneficial.

Her coat is silky shiny now. I was so upset when I first heard because we spent a bit of money on our dog, and the breeder is a wonderful man who travels abroad for his dobermans. So he's no idiot. But we saw the mother, the whole litter in fact and no hair loss on any.

My cousin who works at a vet's office says that it is simply a random thing, that yes comes from the mom, but doesnt appear in all dogs. It's an immune supression and dog's inability to fight off the mite infestation.

    HI Sammers,

I saw your post and wanted to reply personally to you. It could be that your pup has democodosis - mine had it. While it sounds awful, it is fairly my common. My cousin works at a vet and has come across it often and it is common among dobes. Anyway, the treatment is Ivermectin and antibiotics. During this time you wont have to give your dog heartworm pills because the ivermectin will act in its place. Also, you will notice a marked change within about two months if he is anything like my Cookie. Usually this is brought on by stress, and the immune system is compromised - the puppy cannot naturally fight off the mites that hang out on all dogs. if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. I've been through it.
