I’m looking for a good pro-handler for next years shows in the US. Someone who will treat my dog well, won’t rip me off and who has the expertise to get the best results.

If anyone can recommend I’d be grateful. You can always message if you wish the reply to remain confidential.

    Hi

We use very thin hat elastic to band tails. The elastic is cut into a 6'' lengths each having a double slip knot. To band the tail you need a helper to hold the puppy, preferebly upside down to allow sight of how the band sits on the tail. We band to the tail's first notch because we prefer a shorter tail but it would be perfectly ok to band to the second notch for a longer tail.

Use the ends either side of the slip knot to tighten or loosen the elastic until the elastic is in the correct position. The slip knot should be under the tail, not on top of the tail. When the elastic is in the correct position pull the slip knot really tight and tie again into another knot then cut off the surplus elastic ends either side of the knot. You will know if the knot is tight enough because the puppy squeaks.

The tails shrivel over 4 to 5 days then fall off. Never, never attempt to interfere with the process even if there is a little thread of skin left holding the shrivelled tail.

Hi there. I've been surfing and surfing, trying to find videos of dobermand tail banding technique. I stumbled upon your posting and wonder if you can offer suggestion as to the specific POSITION of the band on the tail. Is there a "rule of thumb" as to where to put the band?
