You have to be some weird kind of pervert to enjoy having people come in and say "Hey, I have this nasty discharge and foul smell, can you take a whiff?" lol. I doubt too many people get excited to hear things like that, I'd bet most are just doing their job.

Nothing has to be wrong to go to the gyno. Annual check-ups are required by most doctors (and health insurance policies) in order to renew birth control prescriptions each year, as well as it's part of the annual women's wellness check-up in my doctor's office.

It's a good way to catch important things early - like some forms of cancer.

They're just doing their job.

ETA...I think if men understood what a pap smear and gynecological exam entails, you wouldn't have any questions as to whether or not there's anything sexy about it.

I was going to say that! I'm going to go with just doing their job for the most part. I'm sure there could be some that are weirdos, but think that's by far the exception not the rule. But along somewhat similars lines of thought, I wonder if it would be weird to be married to a male gyno. It's gotta be hard to go from the job mindset to well ya know. Then again, I'm thinking like a girl and it's pretty easy for guys to flip the switch.

ETA: I realized after I posted that I said "It's gotta be hard" and giggled. Apparently, I have the mind of a 12 year old boy.

I bet it's a pretty easy distinction for men gynecologists and their SO's.

I know I've never been to the gyno and thought anything they did was remotely similar to a sexual encounter.

And, thankfully, I've never been in bed with a man and been reminded of a gyno visit. LOL Maybe I shouldn't say that though...I don't want to jinx my sex life.

LOL!!! You gotta wonder what makes a man decide to become a gyno...*shudder* Any doctors on here who would care to enlighten us?? Either way I'm sticking with my female doc!! There are just some things I wouldn't be comfortable discussing with a man other than my husband

I prefer a woman gyno but I honestly wouldn't care if I had a male gyno.
I'm pretty comfortable with my nether-regions lol.

I just rather figure out that I'm healthy then worry about why this guy decided to look at virginas all day every day (yes, that is what I call them lol).

I've had a few gynes of each type and never really thought about it. Hmm......

What I have always wondered is what it is like living with a psychologist or psychiatrist--does that person analyze and label your behavior when you guys are arguing, for example?

That could get real old, real fast.

If that's the career they're interested in, more power to them. Me, I'm sticking with female ob/gyn's. Some of that stuff is a little awkward to talk about with a guy.

I read an NPR article about women's tears being a turn-off for men... LOL

Really, I could have told them that. It didn't require a study.

I would not want to be a gyno. I agree with most, just doing there job because I would not want to see anything out of the ordinary down there. It would completely gross me out. I would actually probably lose consciousness.

hmmmmmmmm, this thread is just asking for some jokes too.

From Gynecologist to Mechanic............

A gynecologist had become fed up with malpractice insurance and HMO paperwork, and was burned out.

Hoping to try another career where skillful hands would be beneficial; he decided to become a mechanic.

He went to the local technical college, signed up for evening classes, attended diligently, and learned all he could.

When the time of the practical exam approached, the gynecologist prepared carefully for weeks, and completed the exam with tremendous skill.

When the results came back, he was surprised to find that he had obtained a score of 150%. Fearing an error, he called the instructor, saying, "I don't want to appear ungrateful for such an outstanding result, but I wonder if there is an error in the grade.

"The instructor said, "During the exam, you took the engine apart perfectly, which was worth 50% of the total mark.

You put the engine back together again perfectly, which is also worth 50% of the mark."

After a pause, the instructor added, "I gave you an extra 50% because you did it all through the muffler, which I've never seen done in my entire career."

On a serious side........I prefer my female gyno. cause she does not make me put my feet in those goll dang stirrups.

On a serious note

The topic of anything OB/GYN related is one that is very near and dear to my heart. I have been a Labor and Delivery RN for 20 years. In all of those years, I have never witnessed a physician, male or female, act "inappropriately" or in anything other than a professional manner. I have had people make very inappropriate comments to me over the years regarding my choice of profession- "How can you stick your fingers up another womans vagina?", "You must be a lesbian because a straight woman could never do what you do?" , "Do you ever get sexually excited sticking your fingers in a womans crotch?", etc. Comments like those DISGUST me. I chose the speciality I did for MANY reasons, none of which were of a sexual nature AT ALL. My profession has allowed me to assist in the miracle of birth and to assist in the MEDICAL care of women with OB/GYN related problems. I cannot think of ONE person, male or female, that I have worked with over the years, and there have been HUNDREDS, that has ever been involved in the field of OB/GYN for "perverted" reasons. As a woman, who you choose to be your OB/GYN is a personal one. Some women are more comfortable with a male doing an exam, some with a female. Fewer and fewer medical residents are choosing OB/GYN as their calling and the number of physicians that are continuing to practice Obstetrics is decreasing at an alarming rate due to the price of the malpractice insurance that they must carry. I could go on and on and I am sorry for the rant, but I take personal offense to the OP's original statement and I really don't find the humor in it

I had a male when I lived in Tucson. Best. Doctor. Ever. Of course he had to bring in a female nurse during lady exams for propeity sake, but no problem ever.

lol i didnt mean guys dont get turned off, god knows we do. i meant that "ready for sex" mind set, i guess i cant speak for all guys but i dont have a off switch. its hard for me to imagine a male gyno not getting a stiffy when a attractive 20 yr old female comes in for a annual check up.

Porn doesn't depict reality. Health care appointments don't involve hot 20-year olds and doctors who can't keep it in their pants.

My husband is an Emergency Medicine R.N.

He always kind of unwinds his day by sharing the events that effected him during the day.

He has had the occasion from time to time to deliver babies in Emergency situations.

His comments are always about the family, the surprise/horror/joy/fear of the Mom, the medical intricacies of such a procedure in the field (snooze) and the amazing event of birth.

He's very careful, when treating female patience to be sensitive. Often, bringing in female co-workers for assistance, when he feels the patient may be uncomfortable.

Really, for the most part, our medical professionals are just that; Professionals.

Your question may demonstrate a lack of experience or knowledge of the profession or your own, way-to-active, imagination.

He has, however, had drunk female patience in the ER make comments about his looks, or his schedule 'later' or other comments that have been inappropriate and it's been interesting watching him deflect those comments. Humans, we're funny.

We used to work together in the E.R. when I was a Laboratory Technician.

The right to do something does not mean that doing it is right.
