As a new member here I must admit I thought this was a joke at first but reading the posts it obviously is not. I must agree with "ButterflyMommy" there seems to be many different factions on this forum within the membership and moderators to the administration. I also contribute to other Dobe forums and the demeanor here throughout the entire body is juvenile. I hope this episode is resolved soon, there are people with medical and behavioral issues that correspond within the forum walls so this "power" struggle needs completion. This is becoming a selfish endeavor when there are others that possibly need help. Both sides need to mediate and grow up.

My Avatar has been deleted by Ms. Lizard, I suppose because she has a heart and a conscience and wants me to be able to go try and comfort a grieving parent and encourage new puppy owners.

Please Ms. Lizard, may we have the other pink members disgusting avatars deleted also?

As you suggested I replace this placeholder with my own Avatar, I am unable to access that section of my User CP.

There are many among this group that are so more qualified than I to help new puppy owners and grieving parents, as much as I appreciate your kind heartedness.

Thanks,

Kate and Bella

In all sincerity these two most active threads have gone on quite well without getting out of hand in my view.

Sometimes being moderated ( or mis-moderated ) stirs the pot more than the members do or makes us want to.

There would remain the need during that trial period for someone to have Mod powers to shut down trolls or other Yungholes that might show up

Also, I'm seeing that a lot of people who would normally be giving out advice or welcoming new members aren't posting to those threads at all-- again leaving new members without the support this forum is known for. Yeah, it's only for a few days, but I do think it reflects a bit badly on the forum as a whole, even if it's only temporary. However, I take it in the spirit I believe it was intended and not as a vicious retaliation. As I said, if that was the goal, all of us could have been doghoused or even banned.
You know, several people have mentioned this same issue, and I feel sort of blonde, as it really hadn't occurred to me prior, how this might affect how our messages are received, by new members.

I am now rethinking the rather bizarre and negative reaction I got from one such recent new member, during a fairly serious discussion. Guess it's possible that my new "image" may have, er, somewhat tainted the message.

Please, let's not turn this into a ultimatum/go to other forums kind of discussion.

I do see this happening, and its obviously for a good reason, those people are people who frequent other forums besides only this one. and to say that any other forum in particular does not have the same moral/ethical stance DT "once" had, is not true, I know that one of the others I am on, is in fact much like the DT of old. and while its not perfect, it has the right thoughts behind it and is a good community.

I dont think anyone here should be banned or doghoused for letting people here know there are other options out there besides this one, especially with what is going on, I feel that when you try to control people to the point of trying to keep them all to yourself and not allowing them to venture elsewhere as well, that you are more of a control freak than you might have assumed.

HA give a little guy some power and they always go overboard, maybe its really time to talk to the little guys boss and see what they have to say about it.

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

RFR, you are absolutely correct, I feel ridiculous and childish trying to help someone on the forum who is asking serious questions, how does this make us as a group look? I have several times just today, wanted to give advice or talk to someone asking questions, but feel that there is no way I could be taken seriously in either instance with the look of my avatar and sigs.

as for the the ultimatum go to other forums discussion, I see your point, and I agree, that is not good for this forum and not what we are trying to do or say. I just dont want it to be believed here, that the forum mods/admins, have a us and only us or else attitude. and I believe the only reason its been brought up, is because many people here have said they are afraid of being banned or doghoused and are looking for otherr ways to communicate and keep in touch should this happen.
But you are right, lets keep this on track and about the community we are in here, and not about any other.

thanks RFR.

I have had my hands pretty full with a new puppy, nieces, and school stuff over the past month, so I had no idea what all of this was about. Today I finally got enough time to sit down and read, and I found myself wondering, "what is the reasoning behind the pink?" After reading the threads from which all of the pinkies "earned" their colors, I just have to say that I am both baffled and upset.

First of all, if the goal is to avoid stirring the pot and ensure that conversation on the board runs smoothly and without serious conflict, why bring more attention to those who are asking questions that apparently some folks don't want answered? Stifling trouble makers is one thing, but punishing those who are asking legitimate questions concerning the integrity of information posted regarding a serious event, the board, and its staff is another. I can see how just changing the name colors to pink and altering the user titles could be a funny (temporary) joke, but giving users ridiculous avatars, altering signatures, and removing the users' ability to adjust their settings is absurd.

In my opinion, all it's doing is placing ALL of the moderators and administrating staff (the majority of whom do not deserve to bare this particular burden) in a negative light. I am a strong supporter of the moderation done on the board most of the timel; however, I sure hope that new members don't start digging through threads in efforts to see what started this icky, pepto bismol-esque commotion. If I had no experience here and did not have a feel for the way things work on this forum, I would be completely turned off to the place. A community in which people are punished for asking questions stemming from immense amounts of concern, confusion, and hypocrisy is not one of which I'd like to be a part.

I'm not even sure what to say at this point.

Don't lie Britt... you only came to admire all the pink around here lately

Pink is a well known color of Breast Cancer survivors and their supporters. I do not like to see this color used as a 'joke'.

Ok... see these comments kind of get too me... no people are not as outspoken there about certain IMPORTANT issues on said forum... I am a member of both.... and would (hopefully) like to remain a member of both! Too generalize the entire forum is not fair... I do tone down my opinions on said forum, but whatever know me by the company I keep, not by my actions, well in this case mostly my words...

I just pick up a real underlying tone of viciousness.

I agree that this is going on too long. I DO think it was a funny prank to start, started by mods I believe... however I'm not sure that the mods are in control anymore. Do they have the power to change us all back, or is that on Yung now? I don't necessarily see viciousness, but do see some "so you wanna play that game?" mentality.

I am not offended by the Richard Simmons or baseball avatar. But I do see how it could decrease the credibility of the site to new users, esp. if it goes on all weekend.

If mods can't change the pink status, can they at least change back our avatars? I know Burns is gone for the weekend, so we can't appeal to her for help, if she could give it. I know she wasn't even around during the start of all this craziness...

I just want to caution people in blaming our mod team for this - this is what concerns me about these situations. People keep lumping mods and Burns into the same camp as Yung/VS. It's not fair, and I know that they've done a lot to keep DT from crumbing after the buyout.

P.S. I'm really not a P.C.-police type person, but can people please stop using the words retarded and gay when discussing things in the negative? Thanks.

Voodoo was able to remove the avatar for michellejy and caramella. Burns' status no longer shows her as being an admin.

ETA: It also appears that the other mods have gone back to using invisible status.

You may notice that people like DR no longer post. Would that have been the goal, to drive people away?

I suggest it is working.

I have posted a couple of times but feel very self-conscious about the avatar and the signature. I didn't change anything except the avatar photo, so it has been implied civil (forum) disobedience.

I am also considering that maybe DOBERMAN CHAT is the place to go where I may run into people I know and care about - and be able to post without all these silly restrictions.

I PM'd Jenny as well when she was online, and she said she didn't have the ability to change it. As tnh said though, Voodoo can, although it would be nice if we didn't all have to make an individual request to put an end to the joke.

So will I be DH'ed for that? Taking bets now.

WHAT??!?

That must have just happened. I swear she was "blue" this morning. That disturbs me.

My guess is that Jenny just doesn't know how. Don't all the mods have the same privileges? It would seem that the same level of 'power' should have the same abilities.
