I agree with you on this, bean. I think it was just getting us back in a playful way. If it was more, the whole group of us would have been doghoused or banned.

I do still think the underlying issue needs to be addressed, as you said. I think most of us like and appreciate the mods but are very uncomfortable with how the whole situation with Amanda has been handled. That doesn't mean I think they all hate dogs and condone abuse or that they are all covering for Amanda. I'm actually really grateful that Burns said something, and I wish the other mods would follow her lead rather than asking people to remove DNA info from their signatures or locking and deleting threads without even a one-line explanation as to why. THOSE actions make it look like people are covering for Amanda, and it is so counter to what this forum is supposed to stand for that I'm struggling to find a rational explanation as to why. As long as the mods keep a united, silent front, I guess I'll continue to struggle to understand while others will leap to the worst conclusions about the motivation of the mods.

I also think the goofy avatars are a bit of a disservice to the forum itself. Many of the pink members are the same members who contribute the most often. Obviously, there are members who contribute a lot who aren't pink, but you get the general idea. I think new members who see the avatars will not take advice seriously or just completely ignore this site for another one that doesn't seem so "odd." Also, I'm seeing that a lot of people who would normally be giving out advice or welcoming new members aren't posting to those threads at all-- again leaving new members without the support this forum is known for. Yeah, it's only for a few days, but I do think it reflects a bit badly on the forum as a whole, even if it's only temporary. However, I take it in the spirit I believe it was intended and not as a vicious retaliation. As I said, if that was the goal, all of us could have been doghoused or even banned.

I think the poll on who gets banned or DHed first would be a good thing. I can see it happening soon. As for that happening, remember guys, if these things happen, there are other ways we can keep in touch and communicate and still help others, there are other places close by that can be, and are used for the exact purpose DT was originally.

This is a great group of knowledgable people, and I would hate to see them not out here on the net helping others.

Pdubois, and LOLONurse, you are now my heroes.

Well...I'd believe that if it had been a brief "prank". But not only is the time frame for a prank like this much too long, effort has gone into CHANGING the prank. One day all the microscope guys had their names in gold, the next day it's pink. Avatars changed from baseball players to Richard Simmons.

I just pick up a real underlying tone of viciousness.

I can't help but think that all this time and effort that has been spent carrying out this "prank" (or whatever you want to call it) could have been much better put into tending to/improving the site, responding to member concerns/inquiries and contributing to the board by posting helpful and constructive posts to discussion threads/topics. Talk about creating/feeding/sustaining pointless drama!

I have to say, the last little while has certainly been extremely eye-opening for me, and i am coming to share Murreydobe's sentiments regarding the entire Administration/Mod team.

Yep, it's quite the joke indeed. If you know what i mean.

Yep. And I can't access some of the public parts of the forum. If I try to go into my profile to change it, I get the following message:

errica, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

No access to the home page, chat, and under User CP the following have been disabled:
profile (details, picture & privacy),
settings (avatar, signature, options)
miscellaneous (attachments which includes the gallery)

ETA Also the "trade-off" is that initially we all looked like gold member supporters and the semi-private messaging space was upgraded to 1100 messages, although ads are no longer blocked.

Oh no, who lost a dog? Was it the post about Joe? I feel so bad for her. I posted before I knew I would have my avatar changed.

Personally I kind of find this retarded and deterring to new members. This "joke" was played out by people acting more like children than adults. I see now why I am not a frequent "contributing member" here and why I will continue "contributing" somewhere else more adult and friendly. For those of you needing to find other ways to communicate to each other, remember there are more fish in the sea, or more doberman forums anyways....just punch in "doberman forums" into google and see a wide selection, although I am partial to the third link that comes up.

This is just hear-say but I heard a mass dog-housing was in-fact proposed but it was decided that would result in either a mass walk-out (so to speak) or even more forum member backlash.

Who knows? I do think after we all had a good laugh though it would have been beneficial to begin dialogue like Bean said we were hoping for. Especially after being able to laugh together. Every one was more open and comfortable at that point. However, that was not up to us microscope members. We don't have the ability to say "Ok, pranks over mods. Now let's talk." The admin team has that ability...but they're out until Monday.

A dog-housing for changing our avatars to microscopes and our titles to mod watcher? Are either of those things against the manifesto? Do either of those things break any rules?

I've got some bad news for you sunshine,

Now let's talk." The admin team has that ability...but they're out until Monday.

i would actually like to talk about having a trial self moderated forum..

the mods and admin all go away for 2 weeks and see what happens..

I am loving the slow trickle of Doberman"other forum" enthusiasts popping by to try to get people to move over there. Doberman-"other forum" does not have the same moral/ethical stance DT once had.

What happens about the frees peaking part in this country ? because you don't like what people have to say, don't gives you or others the right to shut them up.
But sure its so easy , to delete threads, if you don't like them, send people in the doghouse or just ban them completely from th forum, but guess what, you can't shut them up no matter what and changing avatars and sig. i think that goes much to far. How many of those pay for the features ? You took their money and now you just take the features away and if its just for a few days. Bad move on your end. maybe someone should report that to the company who owns now this Forum. i think that really goes to far.

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

LOL..does the phrase "when pigs fly" mean anything to you? You're known by the company you keep, after all.

if you don't wanna come, you don't have too and thats not about DCF( yes i said it ) or DT at all, its about how the owners of DT dictates their members, because they were speaking up.

I think this should me mentioned on the manifesto thread started by Bean.
