Well, BISD will be suspended for at least two weeks after spring break. The press release says they will be working on alternative flexible schooling, which I assume to mean some kind of online stuff. This could get interesting with a special ed kid who thrives on the routing of going to school. And who's favorite pastime is annoying his sister....

Lamar University is already planning on doing everything online for at least next week already.

I work on one of the largest army posts in the US and so far, all they've done here is ban all the soldiers from travelling more than 80 miles, and they have closed the on-post schools. I think they're still trying to assess the situation and IMHO, they're thinking that if they tell the military to stay away from work and at home, they won't. Instead, you'll have 10,000 military and their families going all over town and down to Nashville (you should see the traffic when the military has a 3 or 4-day weekend) which would defeat the whole social distancing concept.

As of tomorrow, we're still going to work although leadership is trying to come up with a plan to let us telework. 90% of what we do can be done remotely via VPN and if the military ends up locking the base down, we won't have much work anyway since no one will be using their computers...well, some of them will but it'll be from home via VPN and if they have an issue, too bad so sad

At least mine will sit in front of the computer or the piano all day--not necessarily game playing, though that is in the mix. Piano alone can take 3 hours or so out of the day--though if sleep schedules are off, the three hours when he really feels like playing are likely to be between 1 and 4 AM. And changing the subject and moving on to something else that you DON'T feel like doing is..........*sigh* And even at decent hours, there is only so much piano in the background (the same stuff over and over, you know...we're PRACTICING) I can take. It is the lesser of two (or more) evils though.

And then meals roll around. Today we had a fuss because I didn't want to cook, so he got sandwiches with ewww...luncheon meat (and some other stuff too.) But nothing that could be classified as a hot home-cooked e.e meal. Usually I fill in those "I don't wanna cook" days with take-out or brought-in fast food type stuff, but...Not sure what we're going to do if I actually have to break out all of those classic non-perishables and we have to eat them, every single time we eat.

Actually I do know what I'll do. Wear earplugs.

Ought to be interesting to see how many new cases appear in about two weeks. Spring break means more to the college crowd than staying healthy and not spreading corona.

Midway air traffic control tower is closed due to several employees testing positive. One of my coworkers has been tested and is still awaiting the results a week later, meanwhile we are all still required to come in and navigate through the terminal. Tried to get management to find a way to escort us through in to avoid the terminal and were told we’re safety critical and required to take more risk than average workers and trasporting us around the terminal is a logistical nightmare and not practical, wash your hands and avoid people as much as possible. It’s only a matter of time before the entire aviation industry collapses....

Well the latest development here is ......no more evictions ......property owners can file for them although the police will refrain from serving notices.
Also jails are full so if one is arrested (unless it was a violent crime ) they will be released on their own recog. awaiting trial.
Now everyone is waiting on news regarding the privately owned day care centers .....also free standing surgical centers are still doing surgery ......but we are expecting some news on Friday regarding the need to cancel all elective surgeries at the freestanding surgical centers.

Yesterday every news segment I saw had pictures of the Florida beaches covered with Spring breakers. Ahhhhh--so they'll go back to school and infest their various ivory towers with a very down to earth disease.

Oh, yay.... a plumber and a meltdown....

On the bright side, I can now do a full load of laundry without water all over the floor from the clogged drain line (it needs to get snaked out every two to three years) and the toilet isn't running (so maybe my water bill will be a titch lower next month).

I work in IT for a government contractor that supports the Medicare program. I normally work from home two days a week but we are all teleworking now indefinitely. Helo doesn't seem to mind Schools are closed. The liquor stores are closed although you can still buy wine and beer at grocery stores. I've been to two stores looking for toilet paper and both are out. I'm not low yet but don't want to get to that point. One nice thing a lot of the local grocery stores are doing is opening an hour earlier just for seniors.

I feel lots better today ! I haven't watched any news ! BTW- there is a Alan Jackson Concert on AXS later on !

Yesterday evening - it was 54 here and it felt more like 84 - oy that sun is coming on back North , Anyway I grabbed a chair and me and B headed outside - oh man - he loved that - I missed to award winning video's of Mt Doberson - His pray drive was off the scale LOL Just to funny to watch him at work ! We played ball , he chased more Robins and I sat there with a cold beer enjoying the moment - then it hit me ! It was SO quit out here in the boondocks - Indiana is known for being the cross roads of America because of all the interstates that run threw here - it's not only interstate traffic but Air traffic to boot - I have no idea how many jets cross here everyday but has to be a big number - I guess we just get use to noise and when its not there - you do notice ! Like 9/11 - No jets , no noise . Now where not at 9/11 levels --------------- Yet , but there is a big cut in air traffic over us . Maybe CF can cue us in on that one .

Like Fitz said over on the Girls out side Tread - she went to KFC and sat in her car at Kohl's and ate it - it is weird , crazy times .

With any luck - they will shut down all air traffic and the borders of FLA and keep them down there for a few months !

IF is was the POTUS - I would be on the phone chewing some major azz on the Governor of FLA - Maybe a National Guard unit with twin 50's closing down 75 & 95 North bound

Everybody be safe and have a good evening

I kinda have the feeling the Trump has been chewing out the FLA gov...at least when someone asked him something along the lines of some states aren't putting your recommendations/restrictions in place, etc etc, beating around the bush and not really naming anyone, Trump said something along the lines of "I know exactly who you are talking about and I'm not happy with them."

Some perhaps will return to school if it's open. I have a feeling eventually they'll all wind up at home with their parents and a grandparent or two all under the same roof......spreading corona that they picked up on Spring break.

Here in Japan, regarding the coronavirus, now we're concerned whether the Olympics will be held or cancelled. That's the hot topic.
PM Abe announced that he wishes to hold it in a "perfect form/way". I think that perfect thing is a good excuse for our government.
Probably some countries will not be able to select or send athletes.
Or, some may still be affected by virus.
Some events might be held without audience.
None of those is not be said a "perfect" way.
Olympic-torch will be arrived tomorrow morning from Greece in our prefecture and relay starts, with limited number of audiences on the road.
That will not be perfect. Sad though, honestly I think the Olympics should be postponed or cancelled for the sake of everyone's health.

Yeah, probably should be cancelled. There have been a couple of Olympics where one country or another boycotted--I always feel so sorry for all of the kid athletes. They've likely been working practically all of their lives and to finally manage to reach that goal, reach that peak, knowing that likely they can only perform at that level for a few years, and then not be able to participate...that has to be rough.

And of course, tough for the hosting country too, to spend all of that time and money preparing....

Maybe they'll be able to hold them next year?? That would be really cool. There are a few athletes who train for both summer and winter sports (I think biking and speed skating sometimes overlap) but probably most manage to be ready.

Well, my agility trainer had switched to private lessons only, but today decided even that is too risky, based on the science from the New England Journal of Medicine: https://www.nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NEJMc2004973

I'm sad, but at the same time, I applaud her for being really cautious. I wish more people were taking this super seriously. I think if everyone would, we'd be making more strides.

I'm still not working from home, but we have 3-6 people in the office every day, and we're spread pretty far apart. Taking it day by day.

Edited to add, MN is now only testing "those requiring hospitalization, healthcare workers, and those in "congregant living situations," such as long-term care homes." So our numbers are probably drastically underreported. https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota...ses-rise-to-77

This was a depressing read about Americans stuck abroad, and getting very little help from our ambassadors and government. It must be so scary to not know if you can get home. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/18/t...vNQJqMusEmR7ME

As of yesterday, Jefferson County had its first reported case, right here in Beaumont. I really think that once (if) they ever start with wide scale testing, things are going to snowball at a rapid clip.

All bars in Beaumont are now closed, and restaurants are limited to delivery or carry-out.

Haven't been to a grocery store lately, but will (hopefully) be picking up my son's prescriptions tomorrow.

Well we have our first confirmed case here in town...I know it was just a matter of time with how many people that live here commute back and forth to Nashville. And the number of cases here in TN almost doubled overnight to 154, most of which are in and around Nashville.

Well, at least now I don't have to worry about my son having a meltdown over the PBSKids website not working on his iPad. Even in an Otterbox case, it didn't survive hitting the concrete driveway after he threw it.

It was several years old, and the screen got shattered a few months ago, but it still worked. It doesn't now...
