Share your Summer plans!

Summer is finally here and we have been on the go like crazy! Those of you who live in the land of the warm canít possibly understand trying to squeeze out every drop of summer

We kicked off summer with a quick trip to Traverse city, it was cold and rainy but we managed, the next weekend we rented a lake house in the country. If you read my post about TC you know Rizzo was a jerk face the whole time, at the lake house she was a completely different dog, happy to relax by the fire, lay in the cool sand and a little barking at the boats. Her grandma brought her a cool new toy that she carried everywhere and we had a bunch of people staying so they both enjoyed all of the extra lovinsí. The next weekend we were home but went shopping for a camper! That should be quite the adventure for all of us! Hubby grew up camping, I did not so weíll see how it goes, but Iím excited to travel and easily take the kids with us, Michigan has so many awesome places to get out and enjoy nature and I hate leaving them home with a sitter. This weekend weíll be in Ohio for a Spartan Race, hubbyís running an Ultra Beast....30+ miles and 70+ obstacles. Iíll be sitting this one out since Iím still struggling with my leg injury and the dogs are staying home with the sitter but itís going to be a long hot day with very little shade, Iím expecting him to take 12-15 hours to complete. Weíre also planning a short 48 hour trip to Vegas in August. Itís going to be a busy few months, but weíre making some great memories!

My summer plan is to survive it. It's barely June, and we already have temps into the 90s with 1,000% humidity. And while we have cooled off at the moment, it's because we have had about 5" of rain dumped on us since last night. We are hoping to have our central AC units replaced since they both died last fall (one was 18 years old, and one only about 10), and the portable units we are using just can't keep up.

Other than that, train some nosework (we are going to the local NPR affiliate public radio station tomorrow to do some interior searches).

Figure out which dog I'm going to use, and then actually train, for the FDSA Precision Heeling workshop I'm taking later this month.

Maybe find that last geocache we need for their GPS-Proficient Seeker titles (has to be a level 4 or higher), and retrieve and release two more trackables for their GPS- Proficient Tracker titles.

We might be taking a couple of dogless weekend trips. Kind of depends.

One thing I absolutely, positively do NOT want to have to do is evacuate because of a hurricane. Oh, and not have another TS Harvey, because 74" of rain (in what, 5 days?) was ridiculous.

My only out of town plans are 2 weeks (August) at our 100 yo family cabin in Montana. Built by my great grandfather in 1919.

Hope to see Bonnie (Cressab) who has property in Idaho about 60 miles South of us in Squirrel ID.

For anyone who has never been in that neck of the woods... It is one the most beautiful places in the US. I don't do the park anymore at this time of year. May, June and September are cool. Our cabin is at 7000 feet on a wonderful lake.

My son has spent time there pretty much every year since he was about 4yo. so, for over 30 years.

Can't wait... Could not make the 800 mile drive last year, as I could not see. LOL

STJ!

Hopefully lots of hikes and outdoor time!
I have an AKC scent trial in June, a NACSW element trial in July and just got into an NW3 in September. There will be a lot of training going on!

Summer plans? I got no stinkin' summer plans!!

The sciatic problem is a wait and see what it feels like day to day. I think it's getting better but basically my summer plans wouldn't change much.

County fairs sound like they'd be about my speed. As for anything else--it's all I can do to keep the lawns mowed, edged and fertilized (so they'll grow faster so I can mow more often). And get all the rest of the stuff that provides summer flowers (and fall flowers and if that didn't take up enough time I am presently teaching ear posting 101 to a lady with a 10 week old puppy and posting modification for ears with unacceptable problems for another woman whose puppy is a year old and has standing ears but a pocket induced tip in one ear.

And I'm dog sitting for a week in a couple of weeks and dog sitting for a couple of weeks some time in July.

Good thing my idea of a hot vacation is staying at home reading 17 books taking naps every afternoon with the cats and going to at least one dog show a month even though I have nothing to show any more (sorry Toad but even though I could enter you in Veterans--over 11 years you have so many lumps I think they sort of mar your intrinsic beauty)

And now I shall go and plant the rest of the raised beds (all of which have a big row of phlox in full bloom--I don't remember planting them but they are in neat rows so I must have done that--last fall when I do remember tossing out some seeds that were supposed to in in the fall--but I thought it was Calendula--guess not.

Adieu

I don't have much going on this summer with dogs. My club (Quaker City) has supported entries over fathers day weekend, but both judges dumped Mabel at shows so I'm not entering her. Mabel just went into her second heat today - so we are just hanging out. I'm hoping to bring her back out to shows later in the summer. She has 7 points with one major, and I am in no rush to finish her. Harvard is doing well at 11 1/2 - but I keep his outside time limited when it is really hot out. Jezebel is happy to hang out.
My younger daughter is home from college for the summer - she will be a senior in the fall. She is taking the GRE test tomorrow, and will work as a camp counselor as soon as the kids are out of school next week.
We are taking both our daughters and their boyfriends to an all inclusive in Antigua later this summer - we would normally do a cruise, but decided to try an all inclusive. Our oldest daughter now lives and works in NYC - which is only 2-3 hours away, so might get there once or twice.

Summer plans addendum:

My Father is 92, as is my Mother in Law. My nephew is getting married at the end of the summer. All live in Detroit.

So... I am thinking about heading back to Detroit for a bit. Although I talk to my dad and MIL all the time, maybe I need to say HI in person...

I hate flying.

Hey donít talk about Detroit like that! This city has heart! Lol jk but I really do love the city of Detroit, itís not as bad as people seem to think.

BTW I hate to fly too, not for the normal reason but because I hate the process, hurry up and wait to get to the airport with enough time to clear TSA to sit around and wait for your flight, oh and hope itís not delayed (usually not our fault even though the airlines like to blame us), then get stuffed in an airplane as tight as you can. Plus I spend a lot of time in and around an airport so it gets old real fast.

Also, if your looking to fly into DTW Sundayís are usually the most expensive day to fly in.

LOL CF...

I grew up in Detroit in the '50s and '60s. It was known as the "Paris of the US".

Arts, Music, Architecture, Jobs, Sports... You name it.

It went to hell in a hand basket in a matter of a few years. I left in1971, never to return except for visits.

Corrupt government (think Coleman Young), corrupt unions (think Jimmy Hoffa), greedy corporations (think GMC/Ford) and racial strife took our beautiful city down in a matter of years. It was a perfect storm of ignorance, malfeasance, criminal activity and racism. Plus middle-class flight to the suburbs.

I hope that that our once wonderful city will return some 40+ years later.

John
Portland OR

Oh also... BTW. I don't pay to fly. FC via millions of earned miles. Again.. I HATE FLYING!

Oh also... BTW. I don't pay to fly. FC via millions of earned miles. Again.. I HATE FLYING!
Oh ya the city is riddled with corruption... kilpatrick and donít even get me started on the illich family

Gotta love flying with miles...I just booked a trip to Vegas with them!

Right now, mostly my plan is to enjoy my break from sewing until the big Christmas in July sale. Hoping to get Sypha into another Nosework trial, and she has a seminar next month, so focusing on that some, but also just enjoying having free time, since I don't have much of it the rest of the year

I turn 70 next month, so for my special summer/birthday treat I'm joining a herpetology expedition to Guatemala to look for snakes, lizards and frogs. Birds too!
Ziva will go spend the 10 days with her "other family" and their dogs - she loves staying with them.

That sounds cool, CR. Are you doing a study or population count kind of thing, or just wandering around looking under leaves and up in treetops to see what you can spot?

We EXPECT lots of pictures of whatever you find!!

A little of both. The leader is a specialist in reptiles and an incredible photographer. I'm just an amateur naturalist happy to tag along, learn lots of new stuff and have fun!
