Stop that mel!

All one needs to know about spiders is:

If they are outdoors... Leave them alone.

If they are indoors.... Take them outdoors.

If they piss you off.... Step on them (BTW, I haven't killed a spider in many years!)

I haven't killed any either, except a couple of black widows who insisted on living in the heater closet.

But I have to admit, I always leave the task of putting the spiders out to my son. Spiders have too many legs for my comfort. (Maybe I should say the wrong number of legs. Millipedes don't bother me and they have LOTS of legs.)

Well, sadly I have to confess I did kill this spider after the photo session. Tried comparing what I saw with the photo ID you sent, Mel and just don't know. My spider was more hairy and looked larger.
When I read the description that they were harmless I did feel a twinge of guilt, but didn't want to take a chance if it wasn't harmless. Now, I feel bad.
But, thanks for looking that up.

That is what 'they' called it. Also, I spelled it your way first and spellcheck said it was wrong and looks like I still spelled it wrong. Bugled is correct.

Hey Doc, dear Doc, We are not superhuman. We got six windows installed and all the checks chinked, whew. Is this the same person that a few notes back said ' A little snow never hurt anyone? lol
Yes, watching the weather closely. Roof is on. Sheating is on. Shingles will be put on tomorrow. Snow coming next week. I think we made it by the skin of our teeth (strange saying).
All we have to do is go back up this weekend and install two exterior doors and that will be just my husband and me. Not sure how that is going to work out. Want to come help? We have great
scenery and great coffee!

Ecin - after you reminding me what 'could' happen, I sent my poor husband back alone to do that door. Took him three days, but it looks good.
We are going back up next week and staying four days to try and wrap it up for winter.
You will be happy to know the roof shingles are on!
We are going to try and put a top coat on the west wall stain where the weather tends to beat everything up. Temps should be in the 60's! The Tetons are covered now with snow so it tells me it is
all downhill now until deep snow.
I will get pictures next week.
BTW, how is Ali these days??
Kiri is back to normal. The ER vet did a horrible job stitching her tummy.

Anyway, at least Kiri wasn't stapled together. Capri ended up with train tracks down her stomach.

Said goodbye to the cabin untiil next Spring. Couple pic's - still so much to do when we return next year. We were actually able to lock our doors which was a satisfying feeling. Mountains covered with snow and the setting sun gave it a rosy glow.

Oh goodness, Doc - thx for a good lol, again....
Here is what we did, put a wrap on the gable. Filled the soffits with insulation batts and whatever they call the cover my husband is putting on that you see on the ladder.
We just didn't make the front deck, just couldn't do it. But all the logs are stained and topcoated. We even got the fascia stained and what a job that was.
The deck will be the first thing come Spring - promise, lol. But, did you notice? The shingles are on?
We would go back this weekend, but it is getting cold and snow is expected.
You are more than welcome anytime to come help

Great looking place !

Re: heat for the cabin. I am still in a quandry over that. I have all winter to search that one. I don't want a fireplace. Other than ambiance, it really offers no heat. We won't spend much time there in the winter.
I want a cook/heating stove. So far, found one made by the Amish that looks good, but quite expensive. I am on cabin forums all the time, reading info. pros and cons. Would like the chimney to not go thru the house
into the loft, etc, if possible. If I can find the right stove, then out thru the wall? and of course would have to cover the pipe with stone or brick or would lose heat that way.
Remember, we are off grid. No electricity available even if we wanted it. We plan on roughing it. It is stretching our minds for sure. I don't want a septic or outdoor toilet. Looking at the SunMar composting toilet.
I have been up against the county for going this way and after months back and forth was able to get my permit - that was last fall. What a fight that was. I realize this wouldn't be a desirable way to go for
most, but I am looking forward to the challenge.

Hey Cressrb,

Through the wall pipes for wood stove/ranges is still a common solution and you might want to look into the solutions that are used on larger live aboard boats (and even some smaller ones).

In the past woven asbestos was used to prevent exhaust vent heat loss--but for (geeze--I think it's been around for almost 50 years now) the same sort of application these days a heavy woven fiberglass wrap material is being used.

Works well and creates pretty good insulation but easier to work with than brick or stone.

Are you going to get a break this winter while the cabin is snowed in?

Pet all the pooches for me too...

Thx, Dobebug, that will give me something else to look into.
Yes, we get a break this winter. No city to plow the roads. You would have to snowshoe in (which we did about 5 yrs ago).
If it is possible to give a blessing to a house, I did so before leaving last week. Like, 'Hang in there, stay together and I'll see you coming Spring'

Doc, I figure this way I won't get much company and no one will ask to stay in our cabin, lol.
