Cressrb - they are mixed breed, though one has Aracana in her - she lays blue eggs. And yes, they lay all year

They are sold by weight, but it's been so long since I bought any. Maybe $2 a dozen, but depends on size.

I think I can get $3 a dozen from my co-workers. They are already jockeying on the waiting list. I probably won't have eggs until September...

I should have added, this is the place where I should say, “Don’t let it go to the SO’s head.” and then I would have put in my obligatory *smart* remark. There.

We buy large brown eggs, from an organic farmer for $5.00/doz.
1 Canadian Dollar equals 0.76 US Dollar = $3.80/doz. American

When they have smaller eggs, from hens just starting out - $6.00 per 30 eggs = $4.56 US$/flat
- this is great value...........................(basically 1/2 price)..............................$1.82/Smaller doz.

I actually had no idea chicken coops could be so complicated. I always think of some chicken wire, dirt floor, spare wood sort of contraption when I see the word chicken coop. I grew up in the south, you realize.

Is there anything you need to do to the flooring to make it more cleanable?

very nice coop.

I use shavings on the floor and hay in the nest boxes.

only thing I might have done differently is raise the coop up off the ground just high enough for vermin chasing dogs to get under..........

I wish I had of done that to mine as poor Dot cannot quite get under and I had to tear up the floor in the feed room part of my shed as the rats were living there.....

rats all gone now.

It's partially because Alan is a meticulous builder. I could have went cheaper, but with the Oklahoma wind and just because... I decided to design my needs and then draw him a picture on graph paper, and Dang, then there you go! An over engineered, but built with love chicken coop.

I, also, am going to use wood shavings on the floor and hay in the laying boxes. I already have a compost person lined up! LOL Rose bushes really love chicken dropping compost.

So, are you saying I have to get a pig, too? I can't take this pressure. My horse isn't even here yet.

As far as seeing more photos... NoBite is going to start charging me. Can we start a GoFundMe account for me?

BTW - A pet pig, does NOT make for good bacon !!

When my twin brother & I, was 4 or 5 y/o...Yes, there is 2 of us & identical...Dad had a small pig & beef farm.
We didn't have a dog, till years later - so my brother and I trained a sow (aka Mother pig) that appeared friendly.
- when she came to the fence, beside the house...us two boys would reach through the barb wire & rub her belly
- soon we had her laying down on her side, on the ground
- next we climbed over the fence, to rub her belly some more
- I was the daring one, and decided to push our friendliness...and sat on her back, while dishing out more affection
- and the sow loved it, now my brother joins me & both of us sitting on the back-side petting her

^^ Over the next few summers, this became a daily event / sow would spot us boys and walk over to the fence.
- and we continued to hope over the fence and pet the top of her head, muzzle and belly
- like the dog, we didn't have & longed for

When the pigs were in the barn (20 FM's), we always looked for our "Lady"...the name we gave her.
- she learned to come to her name outside, "Here, LADY, LADY, LADY"
- in the evening, the pigs strolled into the barn for feeding / us boys would find her
- and an empty tobacco can was filled with ground oats & dried corn, for our LADY
- over the next 20 years, we never had another pig, like our old girl...to take her place
My non-BACON story, had to share from the early 1960's.

That looks very cool! I like it. What an exotic coop they have. The fencing poles look like trees. Are they? What kind?
