So, In the fall, I end up pureeing a lot of pie pumpkin. I freeze it in 3cup containers for pies. I also make some apple sauce, which gets canned.

Fall again! So.. I've been feeding my boys last years left over pumpkin and apple sauce.
Neither have anything added to them. Just pure pumpkin and apple. Just a few tablespoons per meal.

I heard that pumpkin can cause constipation, but I have not seen that.

Any thoughts?

I Love pumpkin for the pups! I have found that about 1 tablespoon of canned pure pumpkin really has helped firm up the stool in helping with expressing glands naturally as well. I think in moderation it can be very beneficial. Also the dogs seem to really enjoy it as a topper to their food. Haven't heard about apple sauce's benefits, but then again in the stores I've looked at the applesauce they all have a lot of sugar so I haven't even thought to add it.

The local dog bakery in town makes individual size pumpkin pies for dogs to pick up for thanksgiving, might get creative and try to bake a few on my own this year and see how they like them!

Both are good for you dogs, in moderation of course. My Parker would love you forever if you gave him applesauce as he loves apples.

You know one can bake using applesauce as substitute for oil or eggs, don't you? And there's applesauce cake. Mmmmm, haven't had once since I was a kid.

And SieYa is right. Pumpkin is good for either diarrhea or constipation, whichever ails you or the dog. :)(
