I had a medium crop done.. I think it turned out pretty well what do u guys think?

just got her back from getting ears! what do you guys think?-crop3.jpg

Another question, The vet sent her home with a lamp shade on her head and was pretty insistent on not removing it. I took it off, but I really am concerned that she may rip a stitch out. She hasn't messed with her ears much at all, I just am not sure what to do.

If your vet INSISTED not to take the cone off, then you need to put the cone back on.

Maybe you should take her back to the vet and let them put the cone back on, then leave it on as instructed. Out of curiosity, why did you take it off to start with?

I have seen quite a few post on here were people have said to take it off and that its not necessary. Its already back on her so no worries there anymore.

My main concern would be the puppy scratching and tearing the stitches. You could tape/glue(??) the ears to the back of her head, like this https://www.dobermantalk.com/puppy-co...ar-taping.html
But I have always heard people preferring the cone method more

Taking the cone off is a big mistake and does more harm than good.
In future pay attention to your Vet. Clearly you do not have the qualifications to ignore sound advice.

Sorry just being blunt for the sake of your dog....

I think the OP means he took off the elizabethan collar - the "lampshade cone" - I don't think the vet knew to put a cup on this puppy's ears.

Editing for visual reference. ekrael45, did you take this off:

The cone was off for an hour or so. In that time I snapped some pics and posted on here on what everyone thought. I have heard it go both ways on here and that why I posted the question. The cone is back on and all is good . Thanks for the advice!

I think the OP meant the vet sent the puppy home with an E-collar on, not with the ears posted up around a cone. Correct me if I'm wrong

I took off the Elizabethan collar off. The vet said that it wasn't necessary for the cup on top of the head and that the collar would be fine till we start posting. sorry for the confusion.

ooh, that first picture made my tummy churn. My baby is going to get hers done next week, the worry of it is almost making me sick! You pup looks fairly happy though despite the stitches coming out of his ears!

Are you asking for opinions on whether this crop is flattering to your puppy's head?

I think the crop looks on the shorter size of medium, from what I can tell. Personally, I would have gone a little longer because as she grows, the crop will look shorter. But that's just me. If you're happy with it, that's all that matters

Original question was what every one thought of her crop. Second question was if the E-cone was neccessary

1. Too much bell left on. That's where it flares out at the bottom. Length is a little short for my taste but shape is much more important than length.IMHO.

2. Lose the e-collar. it causes the dog more distress.

Did you show the vet pictures of what you wanted? If so, does the crop look like what you wanted?

I have to agree that it appears to me that way too much bell was left on. But what matters is if you like it or not.

If you do take the collar off, how are you going to keep the ears safe? That would be my first concern. My second concern would be that the vet didn't use the cup method. My dobes have come home cropped already but all of them have used the cup method or some method to keep the ears safe.

Edited to add - I just noticed your location. If Dr. Grant did them, I would not worry. From what I've seen he is a highly respected and very qualified vet for doberman crops.

For my personal preference there's a little too much bell left on and they're a little short. I don't think Dr. Grant would do a crop like that, IMHO, just from what I've seen of his work. The puppy is adorable though and if you're happy then that's what matters.

Thanks sizzledog that made me miss my cup head

OP it's all in what you like. after seeing anakin with a longer crop then that he is what looks good to me.

I'd double check that the stitch didn't in fact come out.....but i am paranoid. after 10 days I still didn't want to touch his ears!!

I remember that thread now and commented on it. Well, I guess there's a good reason many of suggested that Dr. Grant be used.

Too true! Obviously the vet used instead of Dr. Grant doesn't have a clue what a show crop actually looks like.

I'd be devastated if a crop like that had been put on one of my puppies. But as the others have said, if you're happy with them, then that's all that matters.

I did talk to Dr. Grant again but she was just over ten weeks and he did he would not crop after 9 (btw much nicer on the phone this time, wish that would have been the case the first two times). The pic I posted isnt the best and I was not going for a show crop (not to big on the longer ears). I was checking them out today and they do have a nice curce down the the bell and The cut was made just below the inside corner of the eye. Im new to the whole dobe thing as I have said before and I really do appreciate everyones oppinion. I think they would look much different if she had the cup on her head with pics but im not sure. Thanks again
