Yeah... What gk posted. However, I am in the minority and bridge pretty much through posting. I'm sure that it is unnecessary, but that is the way that I have always done it. Old guy, stuck in cement!
If you do bridge, you have to be very fastidious as to your technique. Ears need to be at the proper angle (10 o'clock - 2 o'clock works well) Also, the biggest mistake people make (including vets) is to position the bridge to high. JMO, but, I feel the bridge, should you choose to use one, should be positioned barely above the skull.
But yeah... actually no bridge is really needed. I have just found that I like the control over the angle and it seem to keep the posts that might occasionally pop out in place.
Bottom line: I have never had a failed ear and I have never had a pup develop pockets.
Probably just good old fashioned luck.
