Question Week old crop ear question/worry

Good Morning!

I'm probably over worrying, but our pup ears are darker on the top and cool to touch (not sure why or I just didn't notice before, but didn't notice till we got back from vet and I was cleaning his ears and putting antibiotic ointment on).

At the vet today, she removed his stitches and gave him a well pup check, and didn't mention anything looked wrong, but when I got home, I noticed. The white fuzz is cotton balls sorry, didn't get it picked off before photo, I was abit panicked by that point and the black line is my superior paint skills, lol Any thoughts, advice would be well appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

Ok I have finished cleaning his ears, i was just starting to clean in first photos, so thought it maybe better to finish so you can get a better look hopefully easier to see. Its the tip I am abit concerned but not sure if its pigment or glue or ? Also should I be working off "all" the scabs even those red ones? I am afraid to do anymore?

They look like they are healing well - who did the crop? I don't see anything to be concerned about in the pictures.

Don't pull off the scabs; it'll slow down the healing process and is painful to the puppy as well...just let the ears heal naturally.

You might find this thread and the included links helpful as you work your way through the healing/posting process:

(Also listed are a couple of links to DT picture tutorials explaining the backer rod method of posting, which many of the folks here recommend)

Ears look OK to me for one week past cropping.

Don't pick off scabs--those that are over completely healed areas will fall off by themselves and if you pick off scabs over areas that are not yet healed you are actively interfering with the healing process--scabs usually fall off when the area beneath them is healed. Most vets who crop tell you to leave scabs alone--some tell you to apply an ointment to the healing area but more don't--clean and dry is actually the fastest way to get ear edges healed.

But the only other thing to be aware of uis that ears should NOT be posted until the entire ear edge is healed and you have nothing but clean pink ear. Posting over unhealed, scabby areas is a great way to get an infection going.

Check out those links posted by Melbrod--lots of good information in them.

Hiyas! Thanks for the responses!

I think the my worrying was abit overkill and definitely my fault/moment of lapsed common sense.
We had just returned from the Vets, and were outside for abit waiting for him to pee and poo. Afterwards, I got ready to clean his ears and they weren't as "pink" as usual....its cold and snowy here today.... so I think the blood left his ears and made his ears abit darker, and not so pink.........I'm such a muppet and over worrier. LOL

Thank you Fitzmar, The breeder took him to Ohio to get his ears cropped with Dr. Anne Midgarden (We are in Indiana).

Thank you very much for the links Melbrod, appreciate it.

Ok, Thank you Dobebug, I'll leave the scabs, I was too scared to clean any more, hopefully I didn't go too far.

You all are brilliant and so helpful! Thank you for being so patient with me!

Yep...posting can be a little nerve racking ....unless you have someone like all of us coaching you through it........by the time you have posted several times you will get a feel for it........to me it was the first thing Hoss and I did together that established trust with one another.......you will understand better in a few weeks.

HAHA! Hiyas Doc! Aw sorry! We are wonderful Spock is full of BEANS, and I can see where they get the landshark name now!! haha I have had a Great Pyrenees, and they are more like landslugs as pups! so easy! haha
How are your Dobies doing with all this cold and snow? I've got to get Spock a jacket, after 1 minute outside, hes' shivering, he thinks it would be so much easier to just have a poo inside and whines at me. hahahahaha

I spend most of the day chasing him and redirecting him off anything and everything when he's not sleeping, thankfully he still sleeps tons! LOL

But..woah when he wakes up he is full on! he's a good boy, I need to work on recall, so he will come better when called. He defo has a mind of his own, his personality is starting to show, he's ever so smart and he's started to wag his tail abit, its like a baby smile, just melts your heart!!!!

I've bought tons of chew toys to redirect him off our shoes...and he like getting into the dirty laundry and getting socks, so we've had to hide all the laundry baskets/piles. LOL

My husband had a dog in England that loved socks and he had to help deliver said sock out the other end ewwww I would rather not experience something like that, not to mention what if one got stuck!

I had to get on today to get the list for the shopping list for posting, I'm really proud that his cone has lasted as long as it has, but I fear it's now on its last days. He's had it on over 2 weeks now, this coming Saturday will make 3 weeks....though, don't think it will make it.

His ears are nearly completely healed with the exception of a little scab on both ear tips, I've been cleaning, triple antibiotic'ing and gentle stretching hoping I'm doing it all ok, and hoping his ears will turn out well, I will take another picture soon, so I can see if its safe to post yet, regarding healing.

Ok, so for the best bit, here are a few pics, Everyone says he's growing so fast, but I'm with him everyday and I don't see it. lol He's just getting abit heavier. I love this boys so much <3
