Ear Posting Inquiry

Hey guys! I've had my first Dober puppy for a few weeks now, his name is Hudson and pictures are attached!

I'm worried about his ears. This is my first time taping and I'm not sure if I am doing it properly. I've watched numerous videos and tutorials but I have noticed a lot of different methods and I'm conflicted.

Notice the size of his bell, it seems like he has a very long pet/military crop, or maybe even a medium crop. I'm not happy with the shape of his ears, is this due to the crop itself? Or am I not taping correctly?

In some tutorials, I've seen people pull the "natural ear flap" around (inward toward the center of the ear) the tampon or backer rod so that the ear wraps around in a "C" shape. and then tape it down. Others will just pull the ear up, place the tape so that it conforms to the flap, and then press the tape onto the ear, giving the ear a sort of relaxed "L" shape. Which way is correct?

I've also noticed that most puppies just have awkward looking ears until they reach a few months old, am I just being paranoid?

Thank you!!

well hello Hudson!

handsome boy.

ok, the crop is not the prettiest one I have seen....

but not the worst either.

yes there is more of a bell shape but I like the length, not too long and not too short. The bell could be more pronounced because the posts are too big and have pushed that tissue out. does that make any sense.

looks like he has a couple of .bumps. along the cropped edge of the left ear, could there be a little bit of the suture embedded? hard to say.

looks like he has pockets forming, might be better if you taped without a bridge too.

other than that the ears are standing pretty good.

just keep posting!

it might help if you can find someone with taping/posting experience near you to show you how to do corrective postings.

good luck with your pup.

Thank you! (:

The bump at the top of his left ear is a scab from when a litter mate got to him! I'm not sure what the bumps at the bottom are caused by, his ears are completely healed now. I'm scared his ears may be bunching because I'm not pulling up enough before I tape. I've been working on fixing this however, these pictures are all from last week. I'll post more pictures a few weeks from now!

If anyone is in Virginia/DC/Maryland area, I would gladly drive out to you for some help with taping!

Thank you!

I'm not sure what you're saying from your post but here's my advice:

I pull up on the ear as hold there until I'm done taping. I tape from the back of the ear towards the front. This does cause the natural flap to fold outward towards the head.

The little flap should not be pulled forward. It naturally lays back into the ear. That's how it should be. Make sure the post is as far down in the ear as it will go and stretch the ear up snug then stick to the post.
