Ear posting am i doing it right?

Hi this is my dog Rusty. I would just like to get your opinion regarding the posts on his ears. Please tell me if I am doing this right because his ears only stand when he is on alert mode. If he is not on alert mode, his ears are like the wings of an airplane, it sort of flops a little. I've been doing this for seven months already, and this concerns me... Thanks a lot for your help.

That is normal - every dobermans ears are only up when alert. Otherwise they are back and in airplane mode. That is naturally how they lay when relaxed, you cannot change that

I can't see today's pictures but the last two of your last post is just a relaxed Doberman. If they break in the middle that's not normal. Can you re-post the pics from today?

I agree...they look pretty darn good! When your dog is relaxed, his ears will be at 10 and 2 in posts, and if they're unposted he'll be Doberplaning, as demonstrated below. How old is he? You may be able to stop posting.

I had trouble with my boy's ears so I can share some pics of what they should and should NOT be doing.

This one is folding in the middle. (I should have had this ear posted! Not down. Bad Erica.)

Normal - yes.

Yes. (I had breathe rights on his ears here to help support the ends.)

Yes.

No.
Again, he should have been posted here. See the difference? It is subtle but obvious when you get used to it.
I had a hard time distinguishing between them, too, which was part of my problem. He is my first Doberman.

I looked in your gallery - if you mean the photos with the red lines on them, for some reason I can't see them large. There must be some difference with how those were uploaded vs. the first ones.

There are creases there to help them fold them back. If they don't just droop at that spot, don't worry about it.

Do they stay ever droop like my two "no" photos?

Yes they still droop. They droop on the spot where I encircled it.
What should I do?

Are they truly drooping, like folding in half? Or just being bent backwards when relaxed? If they fold in half they need to be posted longer. If they bend in that spot when relaxed and leaning back - that's normal. The ears don't stand erect all the time they will bend and look like wings of an air plane.

Do you have any pictures of what they look like when they droop? All of the pics above of your dog show normal ear positions.

The tip is bouncing, you mean? Like this?

Normal. Though Grizzly is decidedly NOT normal.

Not like that. Half o hes ear the upper part.

Basing from this image the part where I encircled all the way to the top it feels like it is still weak.

Sorry for asking too much. This is my first dobe and new to ear posting.

Ask away - it's what we're here for! But it's hard for us to really give you good advice without some more info. Can you get a pic of this or even better, video?

(LOL at Grizz!)
