Embedded videos disappearing?

I recently posted some videos using the method of [ youtube= video name]youtube link gibbersh [/ youtube], and got nothing but white boxes in my post. Today, I went back to look at an older thread that I had posted videos in, and that I know had the videos properly embeded, and lo and behold, there are nothing but blank white boxes in that thread, as well.

This is the video link with spaces added, to show how I've done it. Normally, you'd get a box with the video in it.
[ youtube = leo ] H2YoraUorWk [ / youtube ]

This is the link without the spaces.

[youtube=leo]H2YoraUorWk[/youtube]

This link takes you directly to the video on YouTube.

Is this a Vertical Scope issue or a YouTube issue?

It all shows up properly on Firefox; for some reason the empty box is what Chrome gives you. Now, at any rate....seems like it used to do better.

But on Chrome, if you run your cursor over the name of your video above the box until the name is underlined (meaning you're right on top of it) and then click, you'll go to the video.

Not sure if this is a forum thing or a search engine thing. We'll see what they say.

I've noticed my smileys on my old threads from free sites like sherv.net have disappeared, and the new ones won't post. The code is there on the edit box, but there is nothing in the final reply.

Example, here's the code
HTML Code:

[URL=http://www.sherv.net/][IMG]http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/happy/happy-and-sad-smiley-emoticon.gif[/IMG][/URL]
I put in, which used to display as a smily, but now it doesn't. It does show up in the edit box--->

So we'll see what the tech folks come back with.

Ive been using Chrome on my desktop computer for months now, and this just started when I posted about their ETD titles. It’s not showing up on my Android tablet using Chrome, either, but they have always showed up in the past.

It does, however, show up properly on my iPad using Safari.

Interesting...

I use both both Safari and Chrome. Not to post videos (because I don't!) but for everything else. I have the latest Safari and Chrome upgrades and the latest OS X software installed. (High Sierra)

I have to switch back and forth because some sites don't seem to be completely compatible with both. I have wondered whether is was simply poor tech or if it was a concerted effort to force the user to switch browsers. Oh well....

I don't even bother to try to see videos (because I'm dial up and it isn't fast enough to do more than about a 3 second video and even that takes forever to load.

And I'm still using Internet Explorer (because I'm untrainable and a nearly total Luddite) but most of the imbedded video's are now showing up as white square with a black bar across the top. If you run the cursor across the black bar at the mid point you get a message that says "click to see the video on u-tube"--I still can't see anything but it takes me to the internet connection for u-tube...

For what it's worth from the Luddite point of view.

Yes, I've noticed this problem, too. Didn't used to have trouble embedding videos on Chrome, but it doesn't work properly now. Works fine on Firefox (I use Chrome at work, Firefox at home).

It's been bad enough trying to figure out Chrome after IE quit working on me. Last thing I want to do is try and work with yet another one. Like dobebug, I'm something of a Luddite.

Possible related issue...images don't seem to be embedding properly when I use the "embed image" option that's right in the quick reply box? I copy the image location on a picture online, use the "insert image" quick link above, the code shows up in the text of reply, but nothing shows up when it is up on the forum. If I edit, the code is there, but that code text doesn't show up as text nor as an image. Ideas???

Example:

there should be an image here: https://www.catster.com/wp-content/u...at-meme-00.jpg

MeadowCat 07-07-2018 07:15 PM

Okay, so it works here, but hasn't been working in other threads???

melbrod 07-07-2018 07:36 PM

May be related to the fact that when I copy the code for a smiley onto a post, you can see the code in the edit box, but it doesn't show up when the post is in the thread.

Hey there,

This is an issue after HTTPS was implemented on the site.
This was reported on another forum. Try removing the "s" from HTTPS and see if that will show the youtube vids.

Ed

Rosemary 07-10-2018 11:45 AM

Remove the "s" from which? The DT address? How do you do that? If I try, it just takes me to google search, which shows the DT address with the "s".

doberadmin 07-10-2018 11:52 AM

In the youtube link, it'll be something like https://www.you_________

Take out the "s" from HTTPS and the youtube video should show up

Well, either I'm doing it wrong, or it still hates me.

I'm confused how that helps embed it, since that doesn't change the part of the link you use when you put in the code to embed?

Rosemary 07-10-2018 12:05 PM

Well what I tried this time didn't work at all...

MeadowCat 07-10-2018 12:08 PM

Since the code to embed is [ youtube = video ] UCmUhYSr-e4 [ / youtube ] (with spaces removed), how does getting rid of the "s" do anything?

MeadowCat 07-10-2018 12:08 PM

^^^^ I cannot see that video that I just embedded while I'm browsing the forum right now on Chrome.

That's what I tried in post #15, and I still have a blank box using Chrome.

doberadmin 07-12-2018 12:37 PM

Thanks,

I see that the new way of embedding the videos isn't implemented on the site.
I'll see if I can make the adjustments here.
If not, I'll escalate it to the tech team.

I'll keep you posted here in a bit.

Hi everyone,

I have edited the bbcode.
It should be [youtube]Your youtube link here[ /youtube]
Please let me know if this worked

Ed

Had to try it a few times to get it right, but that looks like it works! Yay!
