Rehoming 5 year old female (American show-line) - SF Bay Area

Sadly I will be needing to rehome my dog due to personal circumstances. She is a great loving dog, 5 years old (soon 6) spayed female. She is up to date on all her vaccinations. I am trying to give her the best chance of finding a great new home so I am posting here, maybe you guys have some ideas or know someone. I know it won’t be easy.

She is pretty active and strong. Ideally her new home would have a backyard and / or someone who is home often. Most dogs and people she is okay with but once in a while she can be skeptical of strangers & skateboards. She’s never hurt anybody. Far from it.

All her paperwork is in order (AKC). She did not come from Cambria Dobermans directly but was sired from one of their main champion show dogs. I only went with a “show dog offspring” because I hoped it was the best way of having a healthy dog.

I may be reaching out to local organizations that specialize in taking in dobermans, still have to research them.

Thank you for your time.

Welcome to DT. Who's her breeder? If she's from a reputable show breeder you should return her to the breeder.

If not the breeder then please contact a reputable Dobe specific rescue - there are several and some can arrange transport if you are not close by. That is by far the best way to guarantee a good home for your girl. I know DRU personally in NH but there are others. Placing her through the internet is not a great idea.

Okay thank you, if you guys have a list of good reputable rescues nearby please let me know.

I will look up and try contacting the breeder but I believe they were just trying to break into the industry and they never followed up on anything so I am not sure that will be an option but worth a shot.

Get her to Guthrie and I will take her. She would have a nice yard and her own couch! 5-6 years old would be a nice age to take on an adopted Dobe.

Hopefully the breeder is able to help you. You may try contacting your local DPCA chapter club for help as well. Rescue groups are often too short handed to be able to help re-homing for owners.

I'd probably contact Cambria as well as your own breeder. At the very least, Cambria needs to know one of their folks isn't fulfilling their job as a breeder (if they aren't willing to remain in contact, that's a problem). They may be able to help you with finding a new home.

@StrykersPerson I know it is a bit far but perhaps this is the best option. Ideally I would be able to find someone closer so they can see her in person first. Regardless, thank you. What is the best way to contact you? Here on the forum via PM?

Stryker would be the Perfect home! You would never have to worry about her again.

Denise (StrykersPerson) would be a great home for your rescue, IMO. She has a nice small hobby farm, with a huge fenced in lot. She lost her last Dobe a few years ago.

I would pm her. You can always reach her on "The Girls Outside" thread here. It's a thread about her chickens... And many other dumb things.

Thanks all.

Now I am wondering what are my options for transporting at such a far distance. If you guys have any suggestions let me know. I wouldn't be able to drive there myself but perhaps there are other options.

PM me. We need to get to know each other. I will be home around 8 tonight, Central Redneck Time. I think I could make it as far as Denver.

Mel? You got room to put up two adult humans, a Rat Terrier and a Doberman, for the night?

SimpleDobe?

I am serious about helping you and your girl. My only question would be, have you checked out the possibility of a Doberman Rescue Group?

When I lived in Kansas I fostered a couple of Dobe girls. The first one, Abby, broke my heart when I had to let her go to her forever home. The rescue group wouldn't let me adopt the first dog. The second dog, Dee Dee, was around for 9 months before she went to her forever home.

Yes, SP--bring the crew (no chickens ). Dependent on weather (not snowing over the mountains), I could make it from Colorado Springs to Grand Junction (far western Colorado) just about any time. But I would need a week or two notice.

To the OP (and please, StrykersPerson, take this in the spirit it is meant)...please, if you are actually intending to rehome your girl to Denise (StrykersPerson), do your due diligence and screen her (and I'm sure she would welcome that, as anyone would). Get references and call them...ideally a veterinary reference and a couple of personal references. While we all feel like we "know" each other here, this is still an anonymous internet forum. None of us should encourage someone to just rehome a dog to anyone online without doing reasonable checks to ensure a good home. I hope we all agree about that.

That said, I hope that things work out.
