Seeking Rehome/Rescue In Alabama

We are a retired senior couple living in a rural area of NW Alabama. Recently lost our beloved 6 yr old girl to lymphoma.
Our house is not a home with out a dobergirl. We have had rescues/rehomes with us for over 35 yrs.

The ideal candidate: Female, Black & Rust, Standing medium cropped ears, docked, American Standard Dimensions, Spayed, Housebroken,
Age 2 to 5 yrs. No males or blue or white color.

Geographically want to stay in SE, SW and Midwest. We will drive to visit and transport. Happy to pay reasonable fees,

Our home is a Doberman playground. Property allows much free running. Always under supervision. With us 24/7 and travels with us.
Best diet and medical care. Love and affection abound. No other dogs or children in household.

Vet and rescue history references available.

Please feel free to contact me by pm or my cell/text in profile.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the loss of your girl, may she rest in peace.

Have you checked Petfinder for your area?

I wish you luck in finding a new Dobe.

Quick Update. Our rescue/rehome search continues. Been turned down by 4 rescues because we are outside their coverage area. Seems counter to their mission to find good homes for these dogs. However, one of the groups we prequalified with explained they have regulatory issues. Fair enough. Today one did not work out as the owner insisted we become co-owners with them providing training, showing and breeding. It in contrast to our interest in a spayed home companion. We have been networking with breeders and show people. Many are helping us. Recently attended the Southaven, MS show to network. Great event. Met Ripcord. Wow!
We provide a one dog home with daily vigorous exercise, best possible medical care, and 24/7 attention. We are their shamelessly obedient humans. Our property is in a wilderness area on a dead end road on a wonderful lake. Activities include walks, unencumbered safety assured runs, dock diving ................. Our preferred Doberman is a female 1 to 4 yrs old, black and rust, cropped standing ears in good health. We love spunk. If they don't challenge you continuously they aren't real Dobermans. We have documented history of 5 successful rehome/rescues.

We will travel and happy to pay reasonable associated expenses.

Our search continues. There is a Dobergirl out there we can serve.

Please keep an eye out.

Another Rehome/Rescue Disappointment

Received Info on a rehome opportunity from a rescue group we prequalified with. Seemed promising. We were excited. Talked to the breeder/owner. Exchanged info, pictures, personal info........ Thought we were all on the same page. Enroute to our agreed upon meeting the owner texts us saying they had a conflict, wanted to postpone one day. Took a deep breath, collected thoughts and agreed to their new date and time. Soon after they texted saying they had determined the price. We were going to have to pay X. We would be able to buy a Ripcord grade dog for the money. To us the message was clear. They did not want to rehome the dog. Passed.

Our search continues. We are in search of a home companion. No show or breed. We all just want to have fun and grow old together as we have done with our earlier girls..

Their is a dobergirl out there for us to serve.

Kudos to you for considering rescue!

It's been 3 years since I lost my boy! He was a rescue.

It's so tough getting over the hump.

CR is right.

There is one out there, waiting for you!

Your latest disappointment sounds like a bit of a scam. If the Owner is rehoming the dog, there should be no to very little fee involved. A rescue group on the other hand, has many expenses dumped on them but their fees are always (or should be) publicly stated in writing as part of their process. I know it was disappointing, but I can't help but think you may have dodged a bullet on this one.

EDIT: never mind, I just saw your name in another thread so I do know you've contacted us!

Have you contacted Georgia Doberman Rescue? We adopt to Alabama so long as we can get a home visit. We don't have any cropped females right now, but if you apply and get pre-approved, when we get one in you would get priority. Lately we've just been hammered with young males, and any females we've had have had natural ears except a 6 year old red female who has cropped ears that on,y sometimes stand.

I'll also be honest and say that the more stipulations you have to how a dog looks, you will drastically increase your wait time, especially if the dogs we have that fir your physical requirements are not a good fit for your lifestyle. You can email the rescue at [email protected] and we'll send you an application. I'm currently updating the website so the dogs are not listed there, but we do have them on our Facebook page in the photos section.

Regarding Kalico's comment that our spec will increase our wait time. We agree and understand that will be the case. Over the years we willingly and successfully adopted dogs with medical and behavioral issues, some serious. It was a great experience and very rewarding. This time given our age we are less willing and able to deal with those issues. This could be our last dobergirl. So, holding to our spec it is. As an aside we plan to make provisions for her continued care in the event something happens to us during her lifetime.

We Got A New Dober Guy

I am pleased to report our search was successful. We recently brought home our new guy. He is 4 yrs old, black and rust, cropped and docked. Gorgeous, healthy and loads of fun. No question of his lineage. Velcro, touch, lean, intuitive, demanding. He was surrendered to the breeder after the owner developed personal issues that did not allow them to continue to provide a good home.

He was a part of a litter bred by Elizabeth Barrett at ADAMAS Dobermans. Three of his litter mates have achieved notoriety.

Our house is a home again with his presence. He is now in his forever home. We are so lucky.

Here's a few photos from today's walk. We have a 20 acre pasture across the road from our property. He is stretching it out. Not physically abused but neglected. Kept in an apartment for months. Working on the pent up energy, muscle tone, and he could loose 3 to 5 pounds Twice daily workouts like this and an improvement in diet should be the ticket. It's a pleasure to watch him. Took a chance today letting him off leash at times.
My greatest concern was what would happen if he spotted a deer. Fortunately it was a non issue. Think they know he is in town.

Thanks to all for the encouragement. We are having a blast with this guy.

NOTE: Attempting to upload pictures got an error message saying I was missing a security code. Sent an e to site admin requesting guidance. Will provide pictures as soon as this is resolved. Also tried to drag and drop. Too large. 488KB each.

Try uploading your photos to an external host like flickr, imgur, imageshack, etc.
Imgur is my go to since you don't even need to make an account, just upload then copy and paste the "BB code" link to the image(s) in the reply box here on DT.

I would suggest you invest in an electronic collar and lunge line/tracking lead and proof his recall first before letting him off leash in the open. Looking forward to pictures of Bullit!

Ended up with a resizing program named RIOT. Did allow me to resize. Interesting. I need a 14 yr old instructor to improve my proficiency. Also going to see if I can change my camera settings to reduce the size of the images taken. Thanks for the input.
