The Rewards of Doing the RIGHT Thing

In light of all that's happened lately with Cash, what happened today brought tears of joy to my eyes.

Most of you know about the rescue I helped coordinate for Stetson, (an older red male Dobe from a BYB and on his third home), a while back. For those who don't know, just a quick back story:

Guy has dog, guy gets girlfriend and has instant family, kids left unsupervised with dog, kids jump repeatly on dog, dog gets hurt, nips kids, dog must go, NOW!

Unlike some, these people only had one option, the Humane Society. There was no breeder available, there are no formal breed specific rescues in B.C., there is one in Alberta but if you know how big Canada is, that was certainly not an easily available option. They refused to advertise him, they wanted to do the right thing by him.

What did they do you ask? Did they dump him at the H.S., well, they called. They were told openly and honestly that they did not have room for Stetson, they did however offer to take him and euthanize him. So instead, like adults, like decent, responsible human beings, they MADE another option.

Guys parents live down the street from us and he remembered that we have three Dobes. He calls his parents, they call me and the rescue was on. Just that simple. We live eight hours of hard driving apart, but together we made it happen. We had a lot of help from members on this very forum, my breeder, other breeders, the Alberta Doberman Rescue, friends, family and even two Pastor's from my church. Everyone pulled together and found this boy the home he needed.

Today as my husband and I were in the grocery store, this woman who I've never seen before starts yelling "excuse me!" at us, we stop, she comes over and says, "you're the Doberman people, aren't you? You're the ones who helped us with Stetson!" It was guys wife, they were in town visiting and she recognized us from a picture. She gave me a great big hug and thanked us over and over for helping Stetson. I thanked her for doing the right thing!

They are in regular contact with Stetson's new owner, he is happy, healthy and absolutely thriving! They even sent him Christmas presents.

I still can't stop smiling

That is so sweet, I am so glad it worked out for him. It's amazing when a group of people come together, great things can happen!

Thank you, I needed to hear that happy ending.

I just stumbled acrossone of..someone else's...posts, where they were all bragging about "doing it all" with kids and a puppy. We all know how that worked out

There are far more good people on here than not. Easy to forget that sometimes, so, thanks again.
