Adult female - Lacombe, AB

Lila, no photo available yet......... https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/29376393/

"Newly Surrendered!

Lila is a stunning, gentle, sweet 3 year old dog who has recently joined us here at CARES. She is playful yet somewhat shy and appears to be great with other dogs and people of all ages. In her previous home, her best friend was a small dog, so she would likely be quite easy going in a home that already has a dog. She has just started to be introduced to walking on a leash so her forever home should be prepared to train her/get her training. Lila was recently spayed and is up to date on her vaccinations. "

Lacombe is a pretty small town, I'm not sure but I think a high aboriginal percentage of population.

The Cares Canada K9 Orphanage looks pretty decent to me from what I've looked at on the web and FB so far.

It's pretty small and about 20 mins from Red Deer which isn't small anymore.... Lots of resources near there.... I should add I didn't say it looked bad but the costs seem a little off.....

No, they do for sure. I noticed that with another northern community rescue just recently.

Oh yes, very different here. I was just speaking with another breeder/rescuer who came from MB, she was used to spay costing $250, it's easy $500+ here.

The others you list, I don't know how you get a microchip/tattoo for $8?

So definitely, the costs are not the same in our province.

Historically, we don't have much problem with fleas and ticks, but there is a lyme outbreak lately.

The adoption fee is double the average for Alberta rescues.

They seem to only have small dogs, in a province where all little dogs in rescue are adopted within weeks unless they have serious issues medically or behaviorally, and even then...

I can't find any information about what area they service or where there dogs come from??

So, with no personal experience I see red flags.

I spoke to my friend in Calgary last night and the costs aren't that different. You must have a pricey vet Emily.... Either way 675.00 is off..... Even the importers here aren't charging that....

I have not phoned and talked to this 'rescue' so cannot comment on why they are charging what they are.

spay costs in my town are about the same as they say they are paying, unless it is through our spca spay/neuter program.

Hugz and Hope for you Lila.

I would love to know where you can get a large adult dog spayed for $85!! I have seen 300 - 400.

Although I agree the rest of their costs are quoted high, in my opinion. An exam and all vaccines is around $100 here, don't do flea treatments and only special cases really need a groomer. Microchips and dewormers are much cheaper when bought in bulk.

In Toronto it's about 200-300 for a large adult dog, about 85 for a cat.

I moved to a small town, it's a drastic change here. 80 for an adult dog 10-20 for a cat.

I hope you find a good home pretty girl!

They do deal primarily in small dogs according to their FB page, I asked where they get them from. I also asked if they'd put her into Doberman rescue instead.

WHERE DO OUR DOGS COME FROM? Our dogs are all unwanted dogs. Some of the come to us directly from their owners, others come from the animal control law-enforcement system via shelter transfers and via breed rescue organizations that actively rescue dogs of their favored breed. We do not have additional information other than what we have been able to offer on the individual pet profiles on our website.
I sure hope they don't buy them off kijiji...

Oh, and they said they would gladly accept donations from doberman rescues..

Of course they will accept donations for ANY kind, they are a scam and only in it for the money. They DO NOT get their dogs from shelters, shelters will not release anything to them, they are a puppy Mill. They are known by the authorities as well as Pawsitve match, ASPCA etc. they are crooks. I only feel sorry for the poor animals in her possession. Lets shut this place down people!

I am interested in any info to back this up? Proof? They just had an adoption event in Edmonton and the location should know what they are supporting if this is the case.

please look for yourself on BBB complaints, as well as K9 orphange reviews from past pet owners that were scammed and left with poor unhealthy pets. I recently saw a pet that was adopted from there not to long ago. There will be a current investigation (we hope) shortly. we need community support of experiences as well. We feel its also a possibility she is buying poor animals from Kijiii and selling for outlandish prices for a profit!

They have had a number of adoption fairs (calgary trail location) I have spoken to the operations manager (petsmart) and he was very evasive and unsure what to say. They claim that the District Manager went to check out this facility and this turns out to be false. A "guy" named Neal went to check it out but he no longer works there (go figure) so we are unable to question him. I am putting pressure on Petsmart as well and hold them equally responsible

I can't seem to find these, do you have a link?

I noticed my question on FB about where they got their animals was removed immediately, however they did respond privately (posted above).
