EASTON Agador the Doberman pinscher is ready to ham it up on Thanksgiving Day.
The black Dobie will appear on "The National Dog Show Presented by Purina" Thursday on NBC-TV, immediately following the national broadcast of Macy's parade in New York City. The parade begins at 9 a.m.

The dog show has become an annual Thanksgiving Day tradition, with apologies to the turkeys.

"We'll be in front of the television set watching," said Linda Krukar, a hobbyist dog breeder who owns Agador.

He's her prize-winning show dog, and won "First in Group" for the Working Group in the National Dog Show, as viewers will see when they watch the taped show. Despite his laurels, he also likes everyday dog attention, Krukar said.

"He does tricks. He'll give you five, shake, in the ring he loves the attention. He can speak," Krukar said, commanding her dog to talk.

At once, the Doberman, who stands 27 inches tall, let out a resounding bark.

"He's looking at your pockets for treats. You know exactly what he's talking about. He's licking his chops," Krukar said.

She said she named Agador for a male character in the film "The Bird Cage." He's one of six dogs owned by herself and her husband John, who works in medical communications. There are two other Dobies and three German pinschers.

Agador is the big prize winner, though. Under the registered name CH Dabney's Phenomenon, he has accumulated 28 "Best in Show" awards and 37 "Best in Specialty Show" titles.

"Sometimes, we call him Agadorable, " Krukar said. "He loves to eat. He likes tomatoes and lettuce and dog treats. We give him anything."
Dog shows keep the couple traveling. The show that will be broadcast Thursday was taped last Saturday in Philadelphia. Agador was one of seven dogs competing for the "Best of Show" title. The top winner was an Australian shepherd named Swizzle from the upstate town of Stafford.

Agador won his share of fans, though.

"I thought he was the most beautiful Doberman we'd ever seen," said Corey Muller, spokeswoman for the dog show.

Agador's prize, other than the ribbon, will no doubt include some turkey skin on Thursday.

"He'll be eating some turkey and probably have a little of everything," Krukar said.

He can't gain too much weight, though. He's got to stay in shape for future canine competitions.

"When you win, it keeps you addicted," Krukar said.

Yep, he looked really on his game last Saturday. The breed entry was small so getting the BOB was no contest for him - he won a nice coleman dog lounger http://www.whitedogbone.com/cots1.html from my club , but winning the group is never a small thing. I did not stay for BIS Saturday....... needed to get home.

The interesting thing is that Agador showed at the big Ohio shows last Friday, came to Philadelphia just for Saturday to show, then was back in Ohio again for the Sunday show there. The dog does some traveling - LOL!

He and Linda are such a team - you can tell just by watching them together how in tune he is to her every move - it really is amazing to watch him in the ring.........he is SO well trained.

I missed the working group judging, but saw most of the rest. It was a really nice lineup for BIS..any dog in there was worthy.

I watched a little of it today, but I was cooking in another room and so did not see much. I don't know when it might run again. I don't know if Animal planet will show a dog show that was initally done by a major network ?

I also liked the Working group judge, but I am biased since she gave Louise a RWB to a major from the 12-18 class and then a 5 point major from the Am Bred class.

We were out when the Nationals started, didn't get back to put the tv on in the kitchen until the herding group was on. SO GLAD to see a Dobe win BIS - they always seem to be passed over for BIB. Can you see my bias showing???

AP will probably be re-running the show again between now and New Year's - at least I think I caught it twice last year. I hope so since I came in late as well.

We were TIVO'ing it and made Mike rewind to the beginning because I "thought the Dobe won the working group!" I'm going to watch the whole thing one of these days... what a beautiful dog though!

My family was at the show. We had a great time.
My daughter was thrilled to bits that she got a high five from Agador!

Personally, I think Animal Planet covers the shows much better than NBC.

He sure is looker, I saw him at a show in MD about a year ago. he was strutting around the ring like he owned the place. just magnificent. and while the judge was looking at the other dogs looked to be having fun with his owner.
