Smile Sabrina Pics

This past Sunday, we took Sabrina to walk around an estate that is nearby. Old Westbury Gardens had their annual Dog Days Spring weekend. It was a beautiful day. We had a great time and everyone loved Sabrina. We just had one little girl that told her mom that Sabrina looked like an evil dog. And 2 other people that told their children that she was a "do'v'erman.

Yes, she recovered very nicely but I have a sneaking suspicion that she's secretly plotting her next attack.

LOL! I'm sure she is! Listen, I have always wanted to do something for you and Sabrina for sending acomo my way and helping to find Jovi (who is doing FABULOUS btw) the PERFECT home. How about I send Sabrina a care package of some gourmet dog treats to satisfy her sweet tooth? Do you think she would eat them or does she only prefer human goodies?

Great pics. She's very pretty! And the pics you think will be the best always seem to turn out blurry, huh? That's my experience anyway.

Side note: What is it about the Doberman breed that looks bad/evil/negative? Seriously? Is it because they're not all covered in fluff like so many other breeds? Why is a sleek, beautiful dog "evil" looking to a child? I remember even when I was very little thinking they were the most gorgeous dogs I'd ever seen. I just don't get some reactions.

I've never figured that out either....I just don't see it. Maybe it is the "fluff" that most people find attractive. The same thing happened once when I was with my friend and her Golden at Petsmart. The children we saw only wanted to pet my friends dog. To me, they're just magnificent creatures.

I think the reason a child would perceive a Dobe as evil is because they are always the evil dog in their cartoons etc. Anyone seen UP lately?

That's exactly what the child in Petsmart was referring to.

She's beautiful! I see a mini snaggletooth in the blurred photo LOL...

I agree with alisande - they are the evil dog in a lot of media. Up, the Chihuahua movie, the guard dogs in the Simpsons, and countless shows/movies where they are snarling junkyard type dogs.

I was working with a K9 officer and we were talking about breeds in the force - he said that he went to a conference this past weekend and there was a Rott there, which was unusual. I asked why Rotts weren't used more commonly as to me it seems like they have traits which would make them good K9s. He said that at least part of the factor was the stereotype. Rotts and Dobes are portrayed in the media as mean/vicious. GSDs have been Rin Tin Tin, etc. etc. - many more heroic roles. The Portland Police wants a well-rounded dog that can also go to schools, etc. We joked that if Rin Tin Tin was a Rott maybe we'd see more in the force. Everyone is affected by media!

I experienced far less breed stereotyping with Henneh our GSD than with Silas. And I know so many people who have been bitten by / have known "scary" GSDs in their childhood. It's a fascinating societal observation.

Erica

Beautiful!

I have never seen a standard schnauzer outside of a show before, and I've never seen a schnauzer at all, even a miniature, with a natural tail. Unique find.
