Sheesh, Kenny, that's still 19 days away! Almost 3 weeks! LOL I still remember how we were when our time was getting close to making our drive to KY to pick Mocha up...daily emails and texts to the breeder, seeing the puppy pics, reading this forum front to back to pick up any last minute tips, making lists and checking them twice...seemed like the day would never come.

Tick Tock, buddy, tick tock

That's what I've always used.

But I'm not the expert Bug is.

Actually just looked again--I don't use that width. Though it rips lengthwise very easily, so you can make it any width you want with a little judicious tearing.

Thanks Mel - I called and called and called every place around , asking for 3/4 and an inch wide tape - Coach's tape , they didn't have it and could not get it - said it only comes in 1-1/2 wide - I sent Bug a PM telling her that - Her reply ??? Yeah it only comes in 1-1/2 wide and you have to cut it ! LOL It was called Zonus tape then changed to Coach's tape - anyway - that is what Bug told me

Oh Kenny, Kenny Kenny--here, I'll tell you again. In nice short sentences.

The Coach tape which now is called Johnson & Johnson Sport Athletic Tape now comes only in 1-1/2 inch. When it was still called J & J Coach tape it came in 1" and in 1-1/2" tape.

J & J Zonas tape comes in a whole bunch of widths--most of which no one carries. If I buy it I buy it in ! inch which is pretty easy to get.

I prefer to use 3/4" tape for most ear stuff (both making posts and posting ears) so I mostly buy the J & J Sport tape in 1-1/2 inch and tear it in half. Like most adhesive tapes if you snip the end where you want it to divide you'll find it tears in a nice straight line--into 2 lengths 3/4 inch wide.

Many years ago there was some discussion going on whether you could substitute that (now Sport tape) Coach tape for Zonas. People argued whether it was the same or different or could be used interchangeably.

I called Johnson and Johnson (figured it was an easy way to get the real story on the tapes.) Johnson and Johnson's rep said. They are the same tape--have all the same characteristics. Low tack, breathable and great for taping ankles and wrists and stuff where you put tape on and take it off frequently.

And then he asked me what I was using them for? I said "Puppies" Boy did I get a long dead silence. And he clarified what he wanted to know--what was I using it for on puppies--I told him ears. Got another long dead silence and I couldn't leave him hanging. And I explained about cropped dogs ear crops and posting them etc. I think he breathed a big sigh of relief.

He told me that because Zonas which had been used as a medical tape for years before they renamed it and repackaged it as a sports tape they knew there was a market out there for it but it didn't sell because the sports guys didn't know what "Zonas" was. He said it turned out to be a great seller once they repackaged it for the sports market.

So Ken--buy the J & J Sport Athletic tape--the 1-1/2 kind and take a pair of scissors and snip a cut into the outboard end of then put your finger on one side of it and pull on the other side and it'll tear into a nice 3/4" strip. Cut off however long a piece you want And you'll have one that's still on the roll to use later.

dobebug (who is giddy with laughter or maybe it's just light headed because the hair place finally opened up and I FINALLY got a hair cut--thank heavens)

PS I just looked at the price--I think they are robbing you blind in the midwest--who the heck is selling it for $4.49 a roll. (She said rolling her eyes...)

Wait, who has that roll of tape--they changed the name to Sports Athletic tape at least three years ago. I didn't think there was any of the old Coach branded tape still around--it is exactly the same tape as the Sports Athletic tape (and for that matter as Zonas tape) and for about a year the tape I was picking up (one of the local Walgreens carried it) had packaging that said Johnson & Johnson Sports Athletic Tape (formerly Coach tape).

And Mel, I'm going to answer VZ's comment here too.

VZ--Yes, if you are planning ahead Amazon carries the J & J Zonas tape--and I don't know what width they carry it in but the vet clinic where I work only carries 1" and 2" Zonas tape--although I think that Johnson and Johnson still makes Zonas in many different width's (as in 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/2", 2", 3" and 4") or at least they used to. I'm not sure what Amazon does carry.

I prefer to use 3/4" tape--so the 1-1/2" Sport tape works fine and I just split it.

And the big deal is that if you didn't remember to order the tape from Amazon and you need it NOW you can find the J & J Sport tape in many chain drug stores and pharmacies locally.

The whole point is that the Johnson & Johnson product is infinitely better when working on ears than the various other things that the sales people like to try to sell you because it's what they carry.

And I make a big deal about which tape to buy and use because I've been doing puppy ears since my first Doberman in 1959--and I've had occasion to try practically everything that's out there and in my opinion the J & J tape--either Zonas or Sports are the best.

dobebug (and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

I hope it rains soon--I didn't water the fuchsia's and they'll get even with me if they don't get more water somehow.

I ordered the 1" but they carry a bunch of different widths. I never tried other kinds of tape as I was happy with Zonas. I am a firm believer in if it ain't broke don't fix it.
