I'd forgotten you have Drogo!!

And I just noticed he still has his dewclaws. Have you seen him use them like thumbs very much? I'm amazed watching Hairy grab things and hold onto them with his front feet--those dewclaws really do help him out a bit. Of course, he's more foot oriented than any of my dobes were...he's even mastered the trick of standing on a plate to keep it from scooting across the floor as he licks it clean. The dobes would just chase the plate around until they managed (by accident, I'm sure) to run it into a counter or a corner which stopped it from sliding.

Do you think it's because herders make their living with their feet? My Aussie didn't have dew claws but he paid more attention to his feet than the Dobes usually do. He was four months old when I picked him up from the breeder and turned east and went to Vermont. Where we had one of the worst winters in about 25 years.

After the first snowfall we discovered that his furry feet got snow packed into them and it made him limp and whine until it melted. My friends youngest kid who was 7 at the time was the one who sat down with him for several days after the first big snow fall of the winter (10/31--Halloween) and showed him how to turn his foot upside down and lick/chew the snow out.

Not something I'd have thought of--I was impressed. She was determined he shouldn't have to cry about the snow stuck between his toes and he could learn how to do this--for the record Mel, this was the kid that was on the spectrum--and while she didn't talk until she was over two and cried her eyes out about coins and money and counting when she was 6--the teaching of Henry the Aussie was right up her alley.

And yeah--most of my Dobes just chased plates or bowls around and if they got stuck in a corner that was luck. But the loaner puppy, Joey, is brilliant--I realized that the reason I didn't hear him chasing his food bowl around was that he had figured out that if he put his foot in it he could hold it in place.

Maybe they're breeding them smarter these days--ya'think?

We apparently got some flurries here in the Philly suburbs, and I saw flurries in Rye Brook NY - where I was at for dog shows this weekend.

Wow, where have I been. I didn't know you had Drogo. Well, belated greeting Drogo and welcome. You have the best home in the world.
Beautiful photos, altho I am so tired of the snow.

Hey Mel, yes, he has his dewclaws. First one that ever did. Have not seen him use them yet.

You're lucky. All we have had is rain, rain, and more rain. I am not sure if there is more mud in my back yard or my house
