At my house Hoss has has a routine.
Itís like clockwork!
He wakes up and eats at certain times. He requires playtime at certain times each day. Usually right after a meal.
He always get a cookie after peeing, if you forget, Hoss will wait. Real nice down stay with a piercing STARE until cookie is provided.
On sunny days Hoss loves to stomp his legs on the bushes outside to make the lizards run away from him, then the chase is on. Both ears at attention with a goofy smile during the whole sniff and chase routine. Sometimes he gets frustrated and under his breath groans as he is searching for lizards. He is very alert to any changes around him. Loves to go anywhere ! No fear of weather conditions at all. Heck our last hurricane Scott, Hoss and myself were all hunkered down and Hoss snored through the entire event. Was a real bed hog for sure.
As far as company ........they understand Hoss.....but my friends have never gotten used to Hossís normal greeting ....which consists of a ďfront poke or butt pokeĒ. Itís quick...he does not stay long. Itís just a second. But he gets them everytime
So who is next.....whats it like at your house ?

My sister used to have a sign that read:

"If my dogs make you uncomfortable, I'd be happy to lock you in another room".

At the time, she had a Weim, a Pitty and a huge Golden. They were an obnoxious crew to say the least. LOL

I like that a lot STJ--frankly I'm much more comfortable with my Dobermans (or any of my other dogs) than with most people. I except the people who come with puppies for ear help. The best thing about them is the puppies are young with no really good manners yet so I don't have to apologise for my dogs getting a quick poke in (front or back) or for them leaning all over the visitors. Or even for drooling because there are visible treats being handed out to the puppy.

My dogs and even my cats live there and have priority over the casual visitor. Although I do apologize for the fact that Clark (one of the cats) inspects every purse left open and not above stealing stuff out of a strangers purse--but I warn them about this right from the beginning.

Ha, brings up so many memories and funny stories. I was just talking to my sister in law the other day and she ask me which dog was it that wouldn't let her in the hall bathroom in the middle of the night.
We didn't see them much so to keep her out of trouble I put my Staffie Bull bitch in the bathroom and didn't think someone might want to use that room.
Raising five children close in age, all their friends and the neighbors reveled in coming to our house with unlimited pets. Those kids are well grown and when I meet them by chance they never fail to mention my dogs and how they will never forget them.

Now with just adult friends, which are way limited now, the first thing ask before coming over is, 'So how many dogs do you have now'?
There is a quote, 'The more I know of people the more I love my dogs' ...something like.
My animals keep my sanity. I can't imagine not having them in my life and now Dobermans for the last 10 years. Why did I wait so long?

"Lots of people talk to animals...Not very many listen, though...That's the problem. " ~ The Tao of Pooh

No problem with putting them up if it is for short periods, but if the person is visiting for more than a few hours, or overnight, they'd better get used to the dog.

Katana never quite lived down her first introduction to my family, though.

My sister and her teenage kids arrived in town for a visit; Katana had never met them. I let them in the door, introduced the dog all around, "Hi, how are ya'll, hi, hi, etc." and showed everyone around the house. Wagging nub and happy dog face. But then I had to run off to get my brother at the airport (family reunion).

"Nice little doggy" chased the kids into the basement (no harm, just noise), treed my sister on the couch and proceeded to bark at her for two hours until I got home! The minute the garage door went up, my sister said, the smiling butt-wagging doggy returned, waiting at the door for "mom" to appear.

She was very proud of herself.
