any one feed thoughts/feedback https://www.inceptionpetfoods.com/pork-recipe/ OR Fromm Pork and Applesauce https://frommfamily.com/products/dog...nd-applesauce/

Need to change, was feeding Fromm Salmon A LA Veg however they are now including herring and my boy has a high food intolerance to white fish including fish meal, menhaden, and sardines. Thanks

Dobegal,

Are you asking about kibble or canned?

If it's canned, Evangers makes a canned salmon which is salmon, it's own broth and guar gum. Their web address is www.evangersdogfood.com

I think you'd need to look at the web site to see about dry food (kibble).

For kibble I feed Purina ProPlan Sesitive Skin and Stomach. I pulled a bag and looked to see if fish listed was anything other than salmon. Looks like it's salmon and only salmon. They specify that the fish meal used is salmon fish meal but it's first listed ingredient is Salmon. Contact 1-800-776-7526 for further information from the nutritionist at ProPlan.

Good luck--I'm kind of surprised that your dog is intolerant only to white fish. Most fish intolerances are the whole spectrum of fish.

thank you I did speak to a representative from Pro Plan and they said their fish meal is menhaden. Can not give this and yes he was weak or negative to everything on the three pages of food except white fish. which includes, menhaden, herring, sardines, and fish meal which is another name for mostly menhaden.

I used to feed Baron Fromm and the Pork and Applesauce was one of the protein rotations I used and he did well on it.

I believe Fromm is on the list of foods to avoid due to diet induced DCM.

I used to feed my dogs Fromm Pork & Applesauce. They did well on it although it wasn't one of their favorite flavors.

I think the jury is still out on the Grain free - DCM thing. They are still figuring it out and nothing is conclusive as of yet because real scientific testing has not been conducted.

Bold is mine.

Let's be clear - real scientific testing IS being done. Just because there haven't been any straightforward conclusions determined does not mean legitimate research isn't happening.

Scientific research takes time and scientific evidence is most often gathered incrementally. But it most certainly does not mean that research isn't happening.

When I said not being conducted, I meant nothing scientific has come out with any real conclusion. The "scare" that came out if you looked into how the information was gathered and put together was pretty much garbage from a scientific standpoint. Does it disprove it? Not at all, but to take it as truth is irresponsible and anti scientific. Releasing it to the public in that matter was equally irresponsible as far as I'm concerned

I hope to see real tests conducted in a real scientific manner and get that information then.

update on food choice. The boy turned his nose up on the Pork Inception. So after rereading the ingredient list on Fromm Pork and Applesauce I gave it a try. Yep he likes it and is eating no problems. Hopefully they do not change their ingredients as the boy has a very high intolerance to white fish, fish meal, menhaden, sardines, and herring.

I disagree. The cardiologists doing the research and the ones seeing the dogs coming down with a lot of heartbreaking cases of DCM are not being irresponsible. You may be reading some of the counterarguments online, and that's your right, but that doesn't make it scientifically "garbage." It's certainly a hot topic right now, but the cardiologist I work with has personally seen quite a few cases of nutritional DCM, some of which are reversing on diet alone. It's not all BS.

Incidentally, this is not the thread for this, and I will lock it if it turns into a debate on nutritional DCM. There are other threads on this topic on the forum. If you'd like to bring that topic back up, you can dig them up. Consider this an official moderator warning.

For what it is worth, if you don't know, you can take your half-eaten bag of food back to the store if you got it at a box store, and it's within 30-60 days (check the store policy), and generally get a refund or a store credit. It doesn't matter whether it doesn't agree with your dog, or you dog just doesn't like it, they'll take it back.
