It's been a while!

Howdy DT! I haven't posted in ages. Some updates...

Jax is now 8.5 years old... he just keeps aging no matter how many times I tell him to stop it! I update his facebook page regularly, for anyone interested: facebook.com/jaxthedobe

He's doing well, though he was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in his neck last month. I brought him into emergency when he wasn't bending his head all the way down and of course I immediately assumed the worst like something neurological, so I guess arthritis isn't the worst news all things considered, but I still don't appreciate being forced to confront the fact that he's an old man now I've got it pretty well managed now though; he tends to only get sore when it is cold and rainy, so I'm able to be super conservative with his pain meds and now it's like nothing ever happened. His heart is still healthy I actually bought my own holter this year, so I've been doing that twice a year because why not.

We gave rally a try this year; I have to admit that I didn't try it earlier because it seemed boring, but we took a class on a whim and it turns out he loves it! We got 2nd place at his first rally trial. We've also been practicing nosework at home. Like basically any other activity we try, it was no problem to get him motivated and interested - if anything he's a little too enthusiastic, lol. It's a good thing I order so much from Amazon so we have a constant supply of boxes, because he tends to yeet them across the room or punch them. Good times.

We moved to College Station TX this year. Not a very far move, only 3 hours away. I do really miss Fort Worth, but we like it here too. The humidity is KILLER though.

Jax also has a brother now, Laszlo, who actually just turned 3 today! I wasn't really looking to add another dog to the family yet, but he was an accident. Basically he was donated to a service dog trainer that ended up being sketchy, they agreed to surrender most of their dogs including him when he was a baby, I participated in his rescue transport to a foster, the foster ended up also being sketchy (I falsely assumed this person had been properly vetted...), so when I heard he wasn't in a good place with the foster I got him back to me (which was quite a wild goose chase). He is a standard poodle x greater swiss mt dog (yes... really ) and a giant goofball. I'll attach a pic of him and Jax. He's wire coated and MAN is hand stripping a 100 lb + dog a CHORE... so he's lookin' pretty scruffy in this photo, lol

I figured I would have another doberman by this point, but Laszlo kinda pushed that back a bit. A puppy should happen in the next year or two though. My options are a bit limited due to my preference for uncropped ears, but I still have a handful of really great potential breeders in mind I've got my heart set on a black female, ideally.

Anyway, just figured I'd post a little update since I haven't posted in years! Hope everyone is doing well!

Welcome back PlearBear!
Remember, you posted just below my post in the original "Faces to Names" thread, back in 2011.

https://www.dobermantalk.com/new-mem...tml#post916408

I remember when you got Jax before your DT "hiatus".
Jax and Laszlo are really a cute pair...
No SSA issues with the two males yet? Age difference helps, I suppose.

PlearBear + Jax = PB&J ! (It was meant to be)

I have been on DT (a.k.a addicted to) since 2010!
Many of the regulars from back then are no longer active.
It's good to see a member from way back return, and with the same screenname!

We got Eva back in 2012 from HADR (Houston Area Doberman Rescue), just slightly younger than Spock, who will turn 10 in March.

Looking forward to more Jax and Laszlo pics and your busy lives.

@spocksdad wow, that's an old post! It looks like my pictures there don't load anymore but I know which ones they were based on what I wrote. Unfortunately, Dixie passed away last month at age 15. I've had a really hard time with that loss... I had her over half my life (I am now 27). The corgi Leo is my dad's favorite child, he's turning 11 in June.

No SSA issues thus far, fortunately! Jax did live with Leo without issue while I was at my parents, and he did well with other males when I did in home boarding for a while. Laszlo and Jax have a good dynamic and have personalities that seem to vibe pretty well together. I never leave them alone together unsupervised though, because if they ever did get into a major disagreement, it could end very badly just due to their size. So fortunately Jax doesn't seem to have that issue, but I'll be prepared to manage the situation in the event that Jax does develop SSA tendencies - either crate and rotate, or Laszlo goes to live with my parents. Fingers crossed they continue to get along, but having a male doberman that's just something I know I always have to keep in mind, and it would be irresponsible of me to take on another male without being prepared for it!

That's awesome that Eva came from HADR! I did a transport for them a couple years ago, a red uncropped male with some kind of skin issue or burn on his back. I started calling him Logan on the drive to Houston and iirc the foster kept that name. Most of my other transports have been with lone star or north TX though, but now that I'm in CS I'll be closer to HADR and ADAPT. I'm donating a bunch of Dixie's stuff to ADAPT... she had incontinence and mobility issues so I have a lot of diapers, puppy pads, etc and a big wheelchair. Margaret said she could definitely put that stuff to use with all her seniors, which is great. The wheelchair will need taller wheel attachments for dobermans though... I had Jax model it for me, see pic he tolerated modeling the wheelchair but he drew the line at looking happy about it.

Hey PB&J- Is that a Doberman tattoo on your right leg? Had to show my DW your beach pic because she thinks I'M obsessed with our Dobes..... (Edit- on 2nd look, might be Leo, the Corgi?)

You can't get away without posting a closeup pic of the artwork for the rest of us "obviously non Dobe obsessed" forum members here to see..

Related- Years back there we quite a few DT members, sporting lots of tattoos and liked to post pics in occasional tattoo threads. Most of those members (mostly women) seemed to have faded away, just like most tattoos do eventually....

Now we do have a few crazy FM's on the Chicken Thread (Girls Outside, ~27K posts) that I suspect might have tats, but haven't been revealed yet. Maybe if you come over to that thread, you'd inspire them to do such! We need young members over there on the CT, in any case...

Yup......chicken thread. JUst a heads up that you have to pass Stryker's entry process.
Since she started the thread .....she thinks she is the boss.
We have a designated moderator for our ongoing thread. But if you get up early enough you can get away with stuff because she sleeps real late.

Hey PB,

Take a tip from the various wire coated breeds (most of them terriers) save yourself and Lazlo a lot of arm and finger breaking time hand stripping and start using clippers with a length guard to trim.

Very few coated dogs, especially the wire coats actually get hand stripped once they stop showing in conformation. Clippers save lots and lots of time for you and Lazlo.

Great pictures and welcome back.

I'll post up close pictures of everything in the tattoo thread later today! The dog is Liddy, my belgian shepherd. I worked at a vet clinic 7 years ago and she had been a regular boarder in the clinic's boarding kennel; one day her owners didn't come pick her up, then called and basically said they didn't want her anymore because she was aggressive with their new puppy, and they wanted her put down. I had gotten to know her at this point and I knew she was as sweet as can be, she was just old and probably not as tolerant of puppy antics anymore. So we convinced the owners to sign her over instead and I took her home. She was my sweet girl for a good 2 more years, and she was very good with obnoxious young Jax. 2 years might have been short but she was something special... obviously, since I got a giant portrait of her tattooed on my leg! I can't believe it has been so long without her. Fun Liddy fact, I wrote my college admission essay about her to get into Texas A&M

But I want to keep his coat color and texture he looks so good when he's stripped. I'll post a pic of him when I'm done, he'll look so much better. Here's some older pics though. I'll eventually resort to clipping him, but in the meantime I'll continue complaining about hand stripping I might complain but it is actually pretty satisfying. Just so time consuming...

LadyDi, my husband had our girl Zuri tattooed on his tricep after she passed away. I was so nervous about him doing it because portraits can be tricky but I was very pleased with the way it turned out.

I never found the tattoo thread (none of them looked active, also this app isn't great), so I'll just post a few of them here instead! First one is my Liddy portrait (right leg), second is my bluebonnet (left shin), third is my sand dollar (right arm; my mom also got a sand dollar on her foot at the same time). All of these were done by Shanti Cameron

Very colorful & impressive artistry! Yep, you'll fit right in on the Chicken Thread...

Here's link to DT tattoo thread, inactive since 2014. Maybe it's time to revive it with some new posts? (hint, hint...)

I'm not typically one of those who understands the whole tat thing, but those do look really good. Congratulate your tattoo artist.
