Happy 7th birthday, Richter!

Happy 7th birthday to Richter!

I find it very hard to believe he's already 7. I'm very lucky to have him, and it still feels like a miracle that he is mine. Everything came together in such an amazing way for Richter to come home with us...it was really one of those "it was meant to be" kinds of things. I'm so grateful to Mary for trusting us with him, for being the kind of breeder she is, for her friendship and guidance, and for the best boy in the world.

And, of course...photos!

Sypha has already stolen his new Benebone, but they both really enjoyed the special birthday cookies, and they got quite a few special fish treats for posing in stupid birthday hats

Ahh Richter--happy 7th anniversary and may you have lots more. I'll have to get to the library to see your pictures but it's always worth a library trip to see picture of Dobes and especially those on the cusp of being one of our "old ones".

Oh yeah, he looks REAL happy in his birthday duds LOL

Maybe the presents will make it worth his pain.

I see his is a bene bone?? but HDD has a nylabone power wishbone shaped sorta like that
...
which he loves.

In fact, I just looked at it. I think it is retirement time. Maybe I could repurpose it--run it across the floor to pick up stray hair and dust bunnies. It already has a head start on the job.

Anyway, back to the important stuff:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RICHTER!!!

Mel,

Where'd you get that HD Nylabone wishbone? I've been looking for two ever since I saw them posted as "new" here on DT? Toad and Burma both loved the old flat version of nylabone--the wishbone flat pattern--and I keep throwing them away as they get down to nubs of their former selves but I haven't been able to find the HD model online on either Ryan's or Pet Edge--both of them carry practically the entire nylabone line but--on-line isn't the best place for me to try to locate stuff--the 'olde computer doesn't like the length of time it takes dial up to bring stuff up.

Yes, Mel...SOOOOO happy!

Ours are Benebones. Similar style, it seems. Mine both prefer the Benebones to the Nylabones, for whatever reason, so that's what I buy. We can't have any kinds of softer chews, because Richter is a DESTROYER. Such a hardcore chewer, even now, and he's very systematic about it. Even the level 10 Tuffy toys last maybe 5 minutes, so...nope! Every once in a while I'll buy a very cheap stuffy at Goodwill or something and let him go to town on it because he loves it so much, but I won't spend more than a couple of bucks on those, because they just aren't worth it!

We got in a decent walk before the excessive heat warning kicked in, but the dogs still got pretty warm, so I hosed them down when we got home (not their favorite!). I decided to get Richter's pool out for him, and of course that meant play time, I guess? They had a little fun playing...one dog likes the pool, one thinks it's a big water bowl.

We're now all relaxing on the couch - me with two very damp dogs who want to cuddle, of course!

I'm thinking I got mine at a Petco? Or somewhere where I could see it in person. But Chewy has them too.

https://www.chewy.com/nylabone-power...BoCqpIQAvD_BwE

I think the one we have must be what they call a giant size. They actually show the giant for up to 50 lbs. DogDog is 60 lbs, and it seems alright for him, so I dunno. It certainly isn't a choking hazard. I think it was originally about 6-7 inches end to end, a bit more than 4 inches at its widest, with each of the arms a little more than an inch across (wider at the nub parts)? HDD is not a super super strong chewer, but the shape does give him a lot of ability to hold it in place for maximum chewing leverage. As you can see in my previous picture, it has been WELL-chewed.

Edited to add:

Looking at the comments on the Chewy page....it is made in China I try to avoid that, but I guess decided to get this one anyway? No sign of dog distress yet.

WHO is the noisy player?? I'm thinking Sypha? At least, my girls were always the noisy ones at play, though Kip was a virtuoso whiner...everything from the classic whine to a low grumble/moan with an occasional trill thrown in...I really don't know how he came up with some of the sounds he made.

In this video, Richter is the loud one. But Sypha often is louder. Neither of them is...particularly quiet!

I don’t know where to start here lol

Ok , I will start with TK , yes you are right still lol at Richters personality ! All off ours ours have been the same way , and everybody else’s , that is what makes the memories —— That we all share on here .

Tonight — I just showed the little lady the pictures of birthday boy , she laughed and then say aw then I showed her the video , which she laughed and said , Ken , I don’t think ours would do that , they would think they were getting a bath , which I Said , yep , your right , lol

I also showed the video of TK and her dancing Doberman ! That she also liked , great job you all

Now the downer , she said I which you had more time to work with your dogs instead of working at what your doing

, you know ,she is right , more major Change’s coming for next year !

Thanks to everybody on this site for putting big ole smiles on our faces !

Awww, thanks! Hard for me to believe, too - time sure flies! They do make me laugh, every day. Love the both of them, in different ways, for who they both are.

Richter is my best boy, and I adore him.
