Welcome L to the boy Doberman world - lol Mr. B was the same way :grin2: Hang in there - it just takes time --AND - lots of work - you will get it ! :grin2:
Very very good.........nothing better than having the children on board with training.
When are Axel's sharky teeth coming into the picture....during actual games......or is his attempting to mouth your hands while relaxing with him?
Well these Euro's have a really high drive.........we know that.........I had a long sleeve denim shirt that I kept handy...would wear it as I interacted with Hoss as a pup.........this long sleeve always protected my forearms during gardening...so tried it during interactions with Hoss.......worked great. Yep.....at feeding time Hoss would just go nuts and eat as fast as he could.................one time I bought this dish that was suposed to make him eat slower........darn dog.......he dobie slapped the bowl up against the wall.......kibble everywhere.......and he proceeded to eat like he normally did......FAST..................darn bowl cost me 50 bucks........what was I thinking????? LOL
Eventually I think he figured out there was no need fight for food...........he eats slower but steady now..........
Thought these videos might be helpful......Hoss is 3 now.......I have tried many different types of training with my first doberman as well as with Hoss.
Just started with clicker training......I must say............he is learning so much quicker.......that in turn has been so encouraging for me................encouraging because I see training results within a few tries...... !! Love it......
Big L -- I think that you have a Natural born Trainer with Little L !!!!!!!!!!!! She has it !
As far as the pulling on lead - you might want to check using a pincher type collar with Axle , Kadin was really bad doing that - with the pincher - he slowed down really well .
As far as other dogs and him going ape chit - I learned to be ahead of Kadin - That is be thinking ahead of him - like when you walk in to a class - you know there is other dogs there ( be ready ) - so when you walk in try not to let him make eye contact with them - walk in and you see the other dogs- turn him away from them and tell him its OK - the more eye contact - the more some get jacked up . Also - when I turn Mr. B away - I'm giving him other commands - like heal - walk with me - good boy - slow down - walk with me - it sort of breaks his concentration on other dogs .
Dobersharks - Mr. B was the worse ! I have scares for life lol
Pulling is getting better and we are now using a Halti.
Yesterday’s puppy class was a slight improvement....less barking at other dogs and he even got close enough to have a good sniff of some of the other pups!

L&A- Enjoying your Axel puppy thread immensly! :2smile:
Great to see little L participating so much in getting Axel squared away while so young.
Here are a few, hopefully helpful, pointers and our class training experience for you:
Halti's are not recommended for Dobes for two reason. 1-Dobes have long necks and are subject to CVI injury from head harness. 2- Many Dobes learn to hate walking after using Haltis for a time.
Puppy Training Class- Most of the experts say early socialization is more important than training, which can be done later. I didn't take Spock to formal training class until he was 2 y/o when we adopted Eva. The other dogs could be met before/after class time. Your Axel behavior at class might just be due to his young, rambunctious age, even though he's an angel at home with Little L.
All the dog/owner teams were on periphery of a large multi purpose room and went through the training, but dogs not allowed to socialize during the class. Just being in a large room with (20) other dog/owner teams and focusing on training was a huge part of getting our Dobes to behave well around other dogs. There was only one hyper active/bark crazy pug that couldn't just settle down around the other student dogs. He (fortunately) dropped out after 2 sessions (every Sat)
One funny tale during class- Eva chewed through a cheapo leather leash during an extended down stay exercise while everyone was watching trainer in center. Then, Miss Eva decided to start walking around classroom to check out other dogs. (Eva & DW were postioned on opposite side of room so not get Spock distracted.)
One other class note-we brought each of our Dobes their own mat to sit on as a place to go to during all the training exercises. :2smile:
Thats great news.
Shoot when you think about it ...it was not that long ago in his mind...that when he saw his brothers and sisters ran to each other ...did body slams during their romps together .....and overall they played hard. Which included a lot of barking. Every video I have even seen with this breed as pups.......they are hard players and make loud noises during their play. My previous Doberman would not bark but would make loud snarling noises........but appeared to smile during the rowdy playing with the neighbor dogs. We had a little play group.......and of course the smallest pup was the boss.....he was a Pug...named Yoda..............he was always the fastest and could go places the big dogs could not go......anyway....fun times........glad to hear you are having so much fun.
And they don't even have to actually break the rules. One time I walked into the kitchen and saw Katana, standing on her back legs with her neck and head stretched out across the kitchen table licking the butter out of its dish.
Letter of the law...she wasn't actually TOUCHING the table.
OK...Axel is not going down alone on this “Terrible Table Caper” ....whom was in charge of this pup?
Appears as mister and Axel in “time out” together!!!>
