A Birthday Hike

Since I took Mocha for a hike on her birthday, she graciously accepted my offer to accompany me on a hike on my birthday. We only did 2 miles today because yesterday, I stained 1440 sq ft of wooden privacy fence (actually 2880 because the first time I gave it a light coat, but once I looked at it I knew it needed a second coat). I was wearing some coveralls which I found out do not breathe and with the temps in the 80s, I was dying by the time I got done. My back was hurting, my thighs and calves were cramping...you could say I was feeling my age lol. I told my wife "NEVER AGAIN!"

But on to the good stuff (the hike):

Oh geez, here he goes with the camera, I thought we were going for a walk

We always have to stop (numerous time) to smell the flowers

Dad dad dad...don't move...I think I heard a squirrel!

I think it's right over there...don't worry, I have your six!

Haha, nah, it was just the wind

But I could go for some squirrel stew right about now

My girl, always on high alert for squirrels and other varmints that may attack me LOL

And that's how I started my 59th year on this planet, a hike in the park with my favorite hiking buddy

Happy B'Day, TN! But at 59, you're just a spring chicken.

Of course, I won't rub it in how long ago that particular spring was. Because I'm even older.

Thank you, mel. My problem (and probably everyone's) is that I tend to try to do things like I did when I was in my 20s and although the mind says yes, the body is quick to dissuade me of such notions lol

I meant to add - I loved your walk and the photos as usual. Thanks for letting us enjoy.
Did I tell you we had 'HAIL' on Sunday? My poor weeping Redbud had just budded and
for all it's effort was slammed and hard.

Oh no, not hail! Seems like one more round of bad weather always comes at the end of April...the locals here say that it's safe to plant flower and such after April 15 but we learned our lesson last year. Right after the 15th we went out and bought a bunch of plants like lantana, portacula, clematis and some others for our deck and the flower beds and a few days after we planted, a freak cold front came through which gave us a few very cold days and nights with hard frost which killed everything we had just planted.

Just thought about what you wrote, Ken..."59 more" oh heck no! There was a time in my late teens, early twenties when I was into the play hard and die young mentality, and I always figured I'd be lucky and happy to make it to 60. But now that I'm pretty darn close to 60, and for the most part, still feeling pretty good, I'm kinda thinking I'd like to hang around a bit longer to maybe enjoy some of the fruits of my labors. But 59 more years? Again, heck no! Give me 10-15 more healthy/good years and we'll call it a day
