Black & White OR Color ??

Yesterday - I was talking to Alan j. down in FLA , Like every time - We had our Doberman talk

OR Color

I told Alan I was thinking the other day when I took the picture of Ali and Mr. B for the Dobermans in rain theme - I have been told by Vets - read it in print that animals only see in black & white , It was raining lightly - gloomy very low lighting out . For what ever reason - I took the picture in black and white - when I looked at it - it looked ok but when I posted it up - well - to me - it didn't look sharp or it was blurry , I thought - IF - they can only see black & white - Is this what there seeing today ?

I sent a couple of P.M.'s out to ask if it was blurry to them also ? One reply was it looked ok - but wouldn't worry about it - I also got a reply from our resident Pro picture taker - He said it's hard to get a sharp photo with poor lighting - again - that made me " Think " , is that the way they really see it ?

Alan and I had a great talk and when we were done - our opinion was that they can tell the difference in colors - no matter what the Big wheels say - For example - here we have green balls , blue balls and hot pink balls - they always go for the hot pink balls , followed by the green and if the only ones they can find - is the blue balls , they will settle for them - but not until they hunted around for the pink ones .

So - Just was wondering -- What do you all think ? B & W OR color ?

Have a great day !

Doc

They see more than black and white; they just don't see the same color spectrum that we do

Can Dogs See Colors?

As for the photos, I like both but...how do we know it's not a staged picture? For all we know, you took a hose and wet the patio down

And a good morning to you too

I'm getting into this very late as for as dogs seeing color--that's what was believed for a long time but more recently the experts are saying that they a different color spectrum than we do or you could rephrase it and say that they don't see the same colors we do.

And about picture--I have a friend who is a long time photography buff--he said 1) Picture were only as good as the camera (originally he said that about film pictures but later he went on to start shooting with a digital camera and said that nothing really changed--pictures were still only as good as the camera they were taken with.

(Interjection: It goes without saying (but I'm saying it anyway) that pictures also depend to a large degree when it comes to their quality, on the skills of the photographer)

2) He also said that black and white with professional quality gear and skills was always going to produce a more sharp image than color. After digital appeared he said that digital color images were nearly as sharp as black and white.

Now you know what I know--and I've never been able to adjust color on this omputer (everything is darker and more orangish than it should be. So I like the black and white image better but I don't think that's quite what or how the dogs see it.

Cataracts can cause things to look more yellow or orange than they appear to "normal" folks. I'm starting to get mild cataracts (age catches up with you) and I can definitely tell a color difference with my more affected eye. It is most noticeable to me when I'm looking at something white or cream colored in low light, but I can even see it on this computer screen if I think about it.

Mel,

You know perfectly well that I never claim to be "right"--at best my claim is that I'm "not quite right"--so normal? Who knows. And the opthamologist tells me that I have cataracts in both eyes (worse in the right than the left) but it really doesn't seem to much affect my vision so far.

Age already caught up with me--and the color and shading difference on this computer predates the cataracts.

I'm at the library now. I guess I should go look at the pictures again and see if it's my vision (or cataracts) or just my computer.

ABTLH

PS I went back and looked and I still like the black and white shot better and think it's sharper but I don't see any color changes yet on the color picture (no yellowing or oranging). So I think it is the computer and not my undeveloped cataracts.

Mel, Mel, honey--my favorite cousin (or half sister or whatever it was we figured out) I didn't want to have to tell you this but if I don't Kenny (Mr I'm not quite right!) will--so here's the unhappy news--you and Kenny and most of the people who continue to post on the Chicken thread are truly weird--but take heart--at least you are the leader of the pack since you wield the switch and control the keys to the woodshed.

It seems that many of the threads started here become chicken threads sooner or later....it's apparently a very contagious virus. Besides, ECIN started this thread; I know he gets it.
