A Little Bit Of Everything

I was going to put this in the non-Doberman discussions but, this post does include a Doberman so...

We finally had a nice day on a weekend, so Mocha and I headed out bright and early to hit the trails. Mocha was on full squirrel alert throughout and not a one attacked me lol.

We saw no deer today, but we did see a turtle sunning itself

We also saw some ducks

After we got home, I took the camera and went out on the deck so I could get a few bird pics...first up is a white-breasted nuthatch

One of my favorite birds, the red-bellied woodpecker

And that's my day (so far) in pictures

Agree with CR....I love bird pictures where you can see every little feather.

What kind of turtle do you suppose that is?

Huh now you made me Google and I still didn't come up with a good answer ha ha...it looks like a pond slider or a river cooter...but I'm not sure

The turtles we called sliders had an obvious red stripe on the sides of their heads, but I gather those were "Red-Eared Sliders". Apparently there are different types.

River Cooter looks like a real possibility though. Head shape, placement of stripes, shell shape...

Honestly, the credit goes to my lens. That Canon 100-400mm lens is the best money I've spent on photography equipment. I don't have the steadiest hands in the world so I do get some pics that are soft, or slightly blurry, but the ones that are on the money are tack sharp, with lots of detail, even from a good distance. For example, these pics were taken from at least 50 yards away, then cropped down. I was blown away.

TN- I've been researching 100-400 EOS lenses for my SL1. The reviews for the Tamron 100-400 are just as good as the Canon OEM, even by some folks that own both lenses, and for about 1/3 cost. Any input about this alternative?

If possible, I'd go to a camera shop and test out both lenses. From some of the reviews, with the Tamron you may have to do a micro adjustment to get sharp pics. Tamron does make some great lenses and one thing in their favor is their 6-year warranty. I have several of their lenses...the 24-70mm f/2.8, which is simply phenomenal, the 70-200 f/2.8 which is amazing and tack sharp, and the 150-600mm G1 which is a decent lens for the money, but you have to have perfect light and pics more often than not end up soft from 550-600mm.

I read a few professional reviews and this lens gets some high marks.
