Exclamation What happened to Elaine Richmond?

Please read this news article on such a dark subject of Doberman ownership. I welcome all comments.

https://www.chron.com/news/houston-t...m-85307-tbla-4

Dobermans are rarely implicated in human fatalities compared to other pure breeds of dog, and even rarer still attack their owners. This woman by all accounts had many years of experience training and benching American show line dogs (not exactly known for hyper agression) trained and titled in agility, which is very challenging, worked closely with the DPCA in Houston.

What happened here? Does anyone have any background on this horrible incident? The news article paints a strange picture of the victim.

Not knowing the facts, I cannot comment on this particular article. However, my own personal experience tells me that it was possible that her dogs injured her. Especially if they were 2 males.

In 1982, I had 2 boys. They were best of friends. They grew up together. Shared everything. They were both sweethearts. One night, the 5 year old decided that his 7 year old "brother" need to die. I separated them and reunited them in the morning ignorantly thinking that it was a fluke. They met, wagged their tails and then went straight for each other's throats. Stupidly, I stepped between them. I did manage to separate them, but not before I was severely bitten. It took me a year to regain the use of my right hand.

Same Sex Aggression in Dobermans is real and easily researched. Hopefully, this was not the case here.

Don't rush to judgment as the saying goes...

Many of the reader comments in the Houston Chronicle article are just ignorant and prejudicial against dogs & Dobermans.

On the UK Daily Mail article, sourced from the Houston Chronicle, the reader comments, sorted by best, an overwhelming consensus called for waiting for autopsy report, which will hopefully rule out death by dog attack. However, the situation 4x4 outlined above, getting in the middle of a same sex aggression fight might have occurred.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art....html#comments

Many Daily Mail readers do speculate the Dobes tried to revive their owner by biting and/or tugging her which is a natural response by fellow animals witnessing sudden death of a pack member. One reader even told poignant story of a bird death witnessed by its brother bird, who then tried revival steps of biting in increasing intensity, finally resorted to grieving after no response.

Would be interested to hear the final determinations of the coroners report .
Several years ago we had an incident of which the owner had passed away 2 weeks prior .....no one knew .......she kept to herself much of the time.......she had many dogs at in her home.....during this 2 weeks the dogs had no food or water .... ......the dogs were eating the owner in order to survive. It was later learned she died of a terminal disease in her home.........all of this so sad but true.

The dog has a bite history, and I understand she was a terrible person to her local club AND her dogs. She was not well liked. Those who knew her say she was a sore loser who'd take it out on the dogs.

Yes, Chronicle article does say she defrauded local DP Club of Houston of over $23K while treasurer. If this was TV CSI/ The Closer world, everyone would speculate that her unfortunate death was just made to LOOK like a dog attack by some other vindictive human.

However being the real world, usually the simplest, most plausible, answers are true- either health seizure or own dog attack.

Ya, since this is the real world, it's most likely her crap health or her male finally did her in.

I don't know her, but I know a number of folks who did. None of them are surprised.

Thank you. I have owned dobermans for 22 years and competed with them. I was shocked by this. It does not fit the typical circumstances of a lethal attack.

I honestly don't know the sexes of the dogs involved. It did occur to me she was breaking up a fight. But if it is a male and female involved, that would make it stranger still.

A good article that seems seems to be sticking with facts.
To give a opinion on what may have occurred , I would go along with a scenario that 4*4 proposed.

I am not judging anything other than strangeness of circumstances. Houston has a high rate of fatal dog attacks. In geographical locations that have fatalities, the style and commenting on the reports is different.
I did think they painted a harsh picture of someone who had died by an apparent "accident" as these things tend to be listed as after the fact. They did decare it an accident before releasing the coroner's report. I've never seen them do that before.

Mixed sex pair killed her???

Ok. I think we can all agree mixed sex pairs do not typically fight. I have never heard of dobermans that live together of opposite sexes that fight. I have had many males and females together and they are not antagonistic even if they don't love each other. I have had females correct the males, but never fight. The male runs away from a snapping female.

It was weird before. Now it's SUPER weird.

There's a little twist in this story for me already. The article says she was found dead in her backyard. The dogs were found inside the house.

I'm hoping that there will be a follow up so that we know what actually killed her..... I'm really hoping it was not the dogs. She might have been a terrible person in real life, but no one deserves to die of a dog attack, and the breed really does not need the bad publicity.

Updated video report this morning with info that preliminary coroner's info leaning toward death of Ms. Richman by dog bites.

Take it for what it's worth, since it's third, fourth, or possibly even fifth or sixth hand info, but someone on Facebook said that they heard there was a one way dog door. Dogs outside could come in, but dogs in the house had to be let out.

Thank you for this...

I've never heard of a one way dog door but that would allow the dogs access to the house.

That does sound weird - if you had a one way door, generally it's so dogs can go out to toilet, not come inside and be stuck there

It seems distasteful to me to speculate on this woman's death

Pardon my taste, then

I CARE what happened to this woman. Even if she wasn't well liked or popular. I have had dobermans for a long long time and I have not heard a single true story of a Doberman killing its owner in my lifetime, especially not under these circumstances.
I want to know why this happened. If you're uncomfortable with the material, fine. Don't accuse me of poor taste just because I am asking respectfully worded questions as to the circumstances.

It would make more sense to have a dog to ask permission to go outside and to return with free will. IMO
