Background- Both Spock & Eva are avid blanket and shag rug suckers. Spock will also put holes in the thin flannel blankets.
Currently trying to provide alternative activities to this to prevent any obstructions.
So, while on vacation from work, I've been conducting Dobe chew toy testing to find substitutes! :2smile:
Biggest Hit so Far- RuffWear's new Gnawt-A-Rock:
https://ruffwear.com/collections/dog-toys/products/gnawt-a-rock
Amazon webpage (my review is by "Cap Com")
https://www.amazon.com/Ruffwear-Gnawt-Rock-Durable-Sockeye/dp/B0754YW95T
About a year ago, I pleaded with Ruffwear to replace their old "SquareBall" dog toy, which was the most indestructible toy I have ever purchased.
One could put kibble or jam jerky inside it (with difficulty) and the Dobes would spend hours trying to get it out. The BEST feature was size, which was large enough NOT to roll under standard height sofas and chairs in LR, UNLIKE other balls, Kongs and other RuffWear toys. I even tried to source from Euro Dog suppliers in Germany and UK but at an astronomical price plus VAT and shipping.
Well, my hopes were answered with the new RuffWear Gnawt-A-Rock toy!
It keeps the Dobes minds, mouths, paws and bodies engaged for sometimes an hour at a time (without being destroyed) It's dishwasher safe and has clever slit in it for loading large kibble or jerky treats.
You can use to feed wolf-down eaters slowly as they must roll and drop the Gnawt-A-Rock to get kibble to work out. (use large size kibble)
These Gnawt-A-Rock toys have survived a couple days with our Eva (The Shredder) and big Dobe lug Spock (Power molar chewer) with no damage.
Here's some pics:
Spock- "Whad Iz Thiz Thing, Dad?"
Spock- "Oh Yeaahhhhh! - This is Fun!"
Eva- "Toy Play is Beneath Me, So I'll Just Lay Here & Look Dignified...."
Eva- "Darn It.......Grrrrrrrrgh.......I'll Get That Jerky Out!!"
Other HIT Chews & Toys:
Elk Antler Chew Horns- Large Size:
https://amazon.com/gp/product/B01ACMHO3Q
Make sure you get one for each dog in house. Expensive but not bad on AMZ.
Have lasted first day with no appreciable wear down after chewing on by all three dogs.
Petstages plastic/deer chew horn mixes:
https://amazon.com/gp/product/B01D3BDV4Y
NO GOOD- However, dogs REALLY craved flavor of them.
These are too soft, got chewed down fast and they started eating small button sized flakes.
Petstages Dogwood Synthetic Wood Blend Chew Sticks:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B007R1BN56
GOOD, harder and hold up- Great for power chewers like Eva & Spock. Flavor not as enticing as the Elk horns, however. (Our two were never stick chewers)
Nyla-Bone Turkey & Sweet Potato Leg
https://amazon.com/gp/product/B00WZ8WNFK
GOOD- Eva, who's always been a Nyla-Bone fan, unlike Spock, loves this one.
She looks like she's munching down on a big Turkey Leg when chewing and it's shaped just right to grab with her big Dobe paws!
(Is that considered "body shaming"??) :grin2:
