Sherryh was such a sweet & kind lady / think her and hubby got up in years.
- and moved from FL to MI, or something ... I changed servers & lost her personal contact info.

o0 sHaDoWoLf 0o had some great spiritual stories, miss her to / she loved the wolf ghost & her dobes in life.
- she helped me understand former Amy's technique in reading her Dad's mind / "front lobe photo imagery"

PS - I've talked to a few top breeders (in Canada & USA) & also respected some of the IPO trainers that left DT.
- they walk the walk & talk the talk daily / forgot more than most will ever know
- and many of these experts have a hard time swallowing any criticism or strong differences in opinion expressed

b) Does DT need to show more of a presence on FaceBook, to lure in new members?

^^ Just trying to identify some shortfalls & brainstorm a few improvement ideas.

EDIT - I use to like to tell dobe stories and post new photos, of our girls.
- now with DT memory problems and only a few members seem to appreciate any updates...so why bother

Their breeder was an obvious byb but obviously also comes across to first time buyers as being knowledgeable and probably charismatic. So the first time buyer feels loyal to that person more out of emotions then knowledge. If we just chastise that person we just drive them away. What knowledge then could they possibly gain? If instead we try to welcome them and try to educate them. Building friendships and trust will open most people up to be able to listen. But to ridicule them and shut them down we could end up making more bybs out of them. By shutting people down we could be our own worst enemies. So being loyal to our breed our desire should be to educate others.

I was going to quit 3 months ago and still might.....but my time here has been well worth it for me bc I met you and 2 others who so selflessly help me when I have questions. I didn't know what I was doing with Moose bc didn't have experience with the breed but with Mina, I got her from the most amazing breeder and it made all the difference. I speak to them everyday. In addition to my 3 people on here, I learned great ear posting methods and the coccidia threads I read were very helpful. I do wish though that the content in this forum would strictly be about dobermans.

I’ve always enjoyed your stories Beaumont67 and if and when you post in your “Kelly” thread, I always read it. I don’t know if there is one, but a thread with funny, happy whatever stories would be great. Along with pictures of course. I love reading others stories about their Dobermans.

I also remember Lexxsmom , who sadly lost her red male Lexx at 5 years and after that didn't post in DT, (last time 2013) but I remember reading about their adventures, and it was because of him I originally wanted a red male. Zuko and Lex look very similar in stature, I was so sad to see his passing.

She's on FB (not a ton) and is just super busy with life. So she's okay.

It's the people that I can't track down that worry me, that were friends here, and I had email for, and have just...disappeared

Rosemary, we're based out of Beaumont at BRF, but we loaded in Corpus for this trip, and left before Hurricane Harvey came through Rockport/Corpus area.

Honestly, the tenor of this site changed very quickly. While not implying cause and effect, it is a fact. Even newcomers with unpopular or ignorant opinions are now treated with respect. We open dialogue and don't just slam people

I wish she would return, as with the others who left or limited their involvement.

Just be nice....

As far as those who left long before I came, have not a clue.

If i have offended anyone with this comment, my apologies.

While I agree with you to a point, I also respect the members who call a spade a spade, tell it like it is, and refuse to coddle anyone. Most of it was directed at folks who bought from BYB's; this breed already has the deck stacked against it, health-wise, without the BYB's adding to the misery.

@ TN

I understand ... Still bashing neophytes who approached this site looking for advice and guidance is simply wrong. Education, not denigration is the answer.

BTW... Many folks here bought a dog at some point in time from a BYB. I did in 1974. I was 21 yo and fairly ignorant. Years and many Dobes later, I don't regret buying my boy. He lived to be almost 10 and was a wonderful friend and companion.

Times have changed... I am 44 years old wiser and probably have accrued as much "Doberman knowledge" over the years as anyone that I know.

So... The bottom line for me is: Educate... Support... Enjoy the breed.

JMO

I don't think I've ever seen someone call out a member for purchasing from a byb unless they clearly knew better and ignored our advice prior to a purchase. This is the point TN was getting at. As a membership we understand that a lot of new members come here without knowing better and buying from one of these bybs, and that's okay. This new person already has the pup and lecturing them on making a better breeder choice is a moot point. We're going to help them find the ear crop vet, give posting lessons, help with food and vet care and hope they stick around to gain a little knowledge, learn about great breeders, make better future buying decisions and even help out the next guy or gal who comes here seeking doberman help.

The unique thing about DT is we're also going to stick up for the breed itself and call it like it is when we need to. It's been that way since the beginning- at least the 12 years I've been a member. Our mission has been to help preserve and better the breed while making more knowledgeable owners out of everyone in the process. This is even noted in the rules when you sign up, and it's said too that DT is not for everyone because of this.

Back to remembering members- Fitzmar brings up that a lot of breeders once use to post here. I remember posts by Retta, Old drum dobes, Nightflight, Raindance, Emerald, Fabert, Gatehouse, Dobereich, Dragonheart, and probably a dozen others. The show forum was a lively place!

I appreciate your comment (rebuttal?) I don't see where you and I are even remotely at odds.

Offer help, welcome newcomers. Pass on past experiences that might be helpful. Console those who have lost a beloved pet. Anything that can assist a Doberman owner.

Attitude and presence is what I was referencing. Opinions and suggested info vary on any topic. Politeness and understanding are what is extremely important.

Personally, I have so much experience with our chosen breed that I would not even know where to begin. Yet, I don't believe that I have ever been heavy handed with a fellow commenter. Especially a first timer.

BTW. Your words: "I don't think I've ever seen someone call out a member for purchasing from a byb unless they clearly knew better and ignored our advice prior to a purchase."

Nonsense. Maybe not recently, but it was very prevalent when I first arrived on this site.

Just to remind you, it was when the DT moderators started intervening in some of the nastiness that was going on here that several of the worst offenders packed up and left.

OK enough of this.

Oh.. Feel free to cal me John. Most of my friends here do. (Or STJ!... Stop That Johnny ! LOL)

So the question is, where did these people go? Maybe they decided to get into another breed? Don't laugh but before I got Mina my stepdaughter made me Fall in love with a Brussels griffon on instagram and I almost joined their forum- I knew it would be a bad idea since Moose is 80ish lbs . Those smooth coated ones with the cropped ears are so cute I can't help it. I have big plans for Mina though so cannot wait to get started!

What ever happened to Jazi and Creed?

I love the stories and I am one of the ones always asking for updates when someone posts asking for help or even just opinions.

But Beaumont--I end up being reluctant to try to deal with the very long threads like yours on Kelly--as 4 x 4 John keeps reminding me, I'd one of a vanishing breed--I'm still dial-up and as a result I have long waits for things to load--and because it has something to do with "precedence" (what priority a call has to load) the longer the thread, the longer it takes to load--ditto for threads that have lots and lots of pictures. I read your posts but I gave up on the Kelly thread.

Heaven help me if we need to show a greater "presence" Facebook. I don't do FB--and these lists are becoming a vanishing breed--even those hosted by ISP's which used to let me download the content of my inbox so I could read and reply at my leisure without tieing up my one and only phone line are rapidly disappearing. Now the few that are left require that I stay attached to the phone line. And instead of being able to save interesting things on my computer it ends up on the "cloud"--where I can only retrieve it via the ISP.

Dang! I don't know where all these people went--I miss most of them--I miss the activity of the forums.

I'm drowning in nostalgia--it must be time to go and rake up a million more leaves so the trash people can take them away. It'll give the Toad a chance to bark at the danged squirrels who like to hang out on the back fence.

I didn't mean to derail the thread from its original subject, my apologies

But getting back to the original subject, it does seem that quite a few members have left for whatever reason, and I do miss their posts and pics of their dogs. I like being able to watch the puppies grow up, earn ribbons, get sisters or brothers, and all the adventures they go on

I couldn't say. For many of these folks it's been 10 years since they actively posted. We also had our fair share of byb's, greeders, and puppy millers who actively tried to defend their practices.

I miss the folks who were striving to do great things with their Dobes, such as jywel417, it seems like it's been ages in Dobe years since I've seen a Ricky Bobby update. Hope all is well, I think attempts to balance Dobes rather than focusing only on conformation showing or working titles make the breed stronger.
I just saw Rb a few weeks ago, he is still fabulous! Such a cool cool dog
