Lamb at the lake!

A couple of weeks ago we took our little Lambchop to the lake for a weekend away. They had a dog beach there but I wasn't sure she'd really care for the water, but man was I wrong. After some initial sniffing and tiptoeing we tossed in her ball and she just went for it! She still doesn't like being in too deep but I'm hoping after putting her in her new life vest she'll feel a little more confident. Even so she had the best day and made a lot of new friends who she chased in and out of the water for hours. After we left she just knocked out in the car and had to be carried into her kennel once we were in the motel room (the bed was proving too comfy lol). I can't wait to take her on more swimming adventures with us this summer! Do any of your dogs swim? Or is this a rarity among the breed?

Looks like she had fun.

Most of my Dobes loved the water, my first Dobe Sadie used to cliff dive.

But Chuck refuses to swim though he likes to wade through the water.

Aww. Looks like Lambchop is having a lot of fun. Nothing better than a happy Dobe.

Lampchop will be keeping cool this summer

Our red female Chaos liked to swim at the cottage. She would wait while her friend Emma the Boxer went deep for the ball, then meet her half way and steal it from her.

Zachary enjoyed playing in the shallow water. Keeping cool, sometimes just laying down on the sandy bottom. I have some lovely pictures of Zach from last summer, introducing his baby brother to the lake.

Please share photos @flaminscotch I'd love to see them!

And for anyone wondering, the lake we take her to is called South Higgins Lake in Michigan. It's got this amazing beach that's only knee to waist deep for a 1/4 mile out til it hits a dropoff. It's a favorite for dog owners because it's shallow enough for almost any dog to enjoy safely!

Well, Lambchop... Small world.

I am very familiar with your neck of the woods. As a kid (50's and 60') we used to canoe the Au Sable on a regular basis. As a teen, I worked summers in Curran, at a dude ranch/hunting lodge called the Rocky R. The ranch is no longer there, but the airstrip where we raced our horses still is. It is (was?) a beautiful area. Moved to Oregon to go to college in '71 and never returned to Michigan. (Except to visit)

Ah! Seems like we sort of switched places. My husband and I moved here last year from the west coast and although I miss the busy cities we moved from I have to say, the outdoors here are really lovely and dog friendly! We're planning on taking her back next year for a fun road trip vacation and I can't wait to show her the beaches and all the fun outdoorsy places we used to go to and wish we had a dobie to enjoy it with us. If dogs were allowed to go everywhere I don't think I'd ever go anywhere without her by my side!

LOL... The only places I don't take McCoy are indoor restaurants and grocery stores.

Hardware stores, convenience stores, banks, big box stores, pharmacies.... If he is not welcome, I am not welcome.

The end result is that McCoy has become the most socialized Doberman that I have ever owned. If I go to the bank and he is not with me, the tellers ask where he is. Even at my usual grocery store, where I don't take him in, there are always folks on a break who want to come over and say "Hi" to him. We have a lot of new construction in the area and workers will walk around the fenced in site to pet him. He has become an incredible ambassador for our chosen breed. Heck... The even mail carriers love him.
