You CAN Teach An Old Dog New Tricks!

This afternoon Spock passed his CGC test at 6-3/4 y/o! (first try)
For six Saturdays, we've been attending CGC training class at our local PETCO (ex. UNLEASHED) pet store.

"Dad Take The Picture, So I Can Get This Silly Hat Off"

Unlike the CGC test videos I've seen online, this training/test situation had plenty of added challenges. There were aisles full of cat & dog food/treats, a DIY dog wash in back of store and active customers with dogs roaming throughout. And to top that off, a Great Dane/small dog adoption event was setup in front of the store each Saturday!

The trainer, Kevin G., was excellent and alternate trainer Michelle performed the evaluation. Spock had everyone he met (including the test greetings) just lovin' on him. Of course, he just soaked up the affection!

I was so proud of him being such a good Dobe ambassador! I mentioned to the instructor before the final evaluation, as long as a lawn mower doesn't enter the store (pushed by squirrels), Spock should have it in the bag.

I would like to pursue a Therapy Dog certification next with Pet Partners, as Spock is a real people lover.

Ten Doberman Rules
Poke Everything.
It's New? Bark At It.
Moves? Chase It.
Doesn't Move? Smell It.
Liquid? Spill and Dribble It.
Treat or Food? Wolf It Down.
Not Food? Chew It Slowly, Be Quiet & Hide From Human.
A Toy? Shred & Destroy It.
Stuffed? De-Stuff It.
Bites You Back? Wrestle It!

Spock lives such a good life. Perhaps this was his way to say Thanks, and make Dad proud.

Passing his test with all those distractions is an excellent job, at any age. Good Boy Spock!!! You look so cute is your cap!

<bold mine>

Yes, Spock made me proud and did a great job- up until it was time to take the picture with the grad cap on!
He immediately tried to take the cap off.
I explained to trainer Kevin - DOBERMANS DON'T LIKE HATS!

(Veteran DT members will recognize Spock with a subtle EPAD* look in the pic.... )

*EPAD= "Eat Poo And Die"
