Hot in MO

All this week and next week our temperatures are in the mid to upper 90's with a heat index over 100 degrees.

Max just hates the heat and just wants to hang out in the A/C and we limited our walks to 3:30 AM and sometime after 8:00 PM. I guess he remembers his life before rescue when he was tied up outside for 2 1/2 years and just doesn't want part of that anymore.

He's got to be the most spoiled dogs we had in 40+ years of dog ownership.

Does he like water? I put out one of those cheap kiddie pools for mine and they will lay down in it briefly to cool off. This weekend is going to be rough here. Maybe I should fill it with ice

Hey 71....

You should check this vest out: Ruffwear Swamp Cooler? Dog Cooling Vest

I bought one during our brutal summer here last year in the Pacific NW. It is truly a lifesaver.

He doesn't like to get into those kiddie pools, when we boarded him in May they had one but he wouldn't get in it. I just walk him during the cooler hours for now.

During the daytime he will go in the yard as long as one of us is out there with him. We have some shaded areas and he will play and romp around for a little while and then goes back inside. We will never leave him out there unattended or any longer then he wants.

I looked at the coat, seems like a good idea. How long does the cooling effect last?

From what I can gather that swamp jacket has outstanding reviews and the consensus seems to be that it will last anywhere from 45min to an hour, maybe a tad longer. Mostly depends on climate. The hotter and dryer the area with very low humidity it appears to work amazingly. An area like mine where the humidity tends to stay mid range to high (NC) people have said they have notice it still works and is better than not having it at all, but obviously works better the less humidity you have.

That being said, I am purchasing one here soon since it can be a life saver on a camping trip and whatnot!

Thank you John for the find!

A few weeks ago in Central Florida for one week the heat index temperatures were 104-106 degrees. The only thing Dax did was go outside to potty and came back inside to the AC. The only thing I did was walk outside to get the mail. No body was doing anything. Around 9PM I played with Dax using her flirt pole about 3-5 minutes. Both us wanted nothing to do with being outside.

I don't know how you all cope with that kind of heat. Anything over mid 70's & I'm melting as is Trooper. We hit a high of 90F earlier in the week, that was horrendous.

Here's what T thinks of the heat haha.

It is miserable here in STL! However one of my dogs seems content running as hard as he can in the 90 degree weather. I'm really worried he might over heat himself so he's not allowed to be outside without supervision at this moment. The girls however are only interested in the A/C

Well, I can see that I am not the only one having a spoiled dog.

I wouldn't dare to get Max to hot because that would cause me to get a major but chewing from my wife. She really babies him and he loves it.

I’ve got a picture like that, only mine’s twice as good (because there are TWO dogs in it.)

Seriously, though, Kip claims he is DYING if the temp goes above 70 or so--even though when it’s hot here there is no humidity to speak of. Those wet shirts only last about 15 minutes before they’re dry, it seems.
