How much did you pay for your dobie?

I thought this original thread needed some pricing updates. Please don't include any shipping or other costs. I allowed for multiple choice for those that have multiple dogs.

McCoy was $2500, cropped and docked w/ all shots, etc. appropriate for a pup being picked up at 10 weeks. That was Thanksgiving 2014. Still can't figure out how Michelle broke even.... This litter was result of artificial insemination. With all the incumbent costs.

What ever. Perfect pup @ a great price.

@G_R: Karen... You might consider putting an expiration date on your poll, otherwise it may continue to pop up for years

Both of mine were about €1,000 - € 1500. It has been several years since I imported them so I don't recall the actual figure.

I find it disturbing that my dog's value is based on myth and exaggeration, as though their reality wasn't good enough. ~ Jean Donaldson

$350.00 saved her through a rescue. She was born in the pound so she is all natural with full tail and ears. Beautiful!

We pick our boy up Saturday @ 11 weeks. $2500 for a pup from titled and fully health tested parents. Totally worth the investment.

First Dobe was free from neighbor who was a show handler and had too much on his plate. Second was from local shelter, can't remember what he cost. Third was a rescue from DRU, $250 (maybe 12 yrs ago?)
Present girl I bought here in Costa Rica, where the pickings are SLIM!!! Minimal health testing, etc. She's from Lex Luther line, $200.

$2500 from titled/tested parents. Docked, cropped, and chipped. A drop in the bucket compared to the joy he has brought my family.

$2,500. Cropped, posted (every time, till I decided I wanted to do it myself 3/4 of the way through for experience and simplicity), docked, health tested, all shots (except rabies as required from vet by law), titled/tested parents. Breeder also there for all sorts of miscellaneous questions before and after the puppy.

First Dobie girl in 1985 from a BYB was $100.00 @ 8 weeks, she lived to be 12 years old. Max (now 4 years old) was $250.00 from a shelter last October.........to us he is priceless.

1800 CAN$, from CanGCH/AmCH Sire (who has been #1 Doberman in Canada for 2 years in a row, #1 all breed in the province, #4 Working Dog nationally) and CanCH dam. Both tested/screened appropriately.
Came cropped/docked, chipped, CanKC registered, vaxed, crate-trained, etc. etc.
Beautiful conformation and stellar temperament.

Please never purchase from a puppy store because you're more than likely contributing to a puppy mill where dogs are severely neglected.

I know, and normally wouldn't. But what can I say? I was there for some dog food and toys for my other 2 dogs and she snared me with her little face and horse like gallop. The store I bought her from is a small local shop that's family owned, and they provide all of the breeder records and medical records. Again, I agree, but better for her to be adopted by someone that loves her than end up a 7 month old pet store pup, that can't find a home. She's a great little girl regardless, but u understand where your coming from, i really do. But don't those puppies need living homes too? It's not their fault they were bread where they were and ended up where they did. I have purchased a puppy from a store once before. The only reason is they were going to put her down because she had a sprained ankle, and the store said no one would adopt her with a hurt leg. I said well, that not happening, and took her home. Thankfully that pet shop went our of business shortly there after.

When you purchase one puppy you contribute to 10-100 more puppies being put through the same situation. Imagine the mom spending her life in a crate barely big enough to stand in. If people stop purchasing from those types of "breeders" they stop breeding their dogs because there's no money in it. You have your girl now so spoil her but please use this as a lesson learned and warn others to not purchase from a store, online or from anyone not health testing their dogs to the fullest extent.

Lol. I'm surprised no one has paid over $3,000. I've seen many Dobermans up to $4,000 these days. Although I didn't pay that for either of mine.

Karen,

Like John I'd love it if you'd get them to put an expiration date on the survey. This is one that I never fill out because over the years I've paid a variety of prices for the Dobermans I've purchased but it never is a reflection of what present prices are.

The only time I actually paid going retail price on a puppy was the first--purchased in 1959--the puppy was $100 and ear crop was $25. Purchased for show he finished easily in both Canada and AKC--10 months in Canada and 14 months for AKC. Went on to multiple BIS (all breed and Specialty) in Canada and AKC.
