AWOL book series

Hey all you readers! Have any of you ever run across the AWOL books?

They are about a doberman military K-9 dog named AWOL. They were written during the 40's and 50's. Pretty cool period stuff. WW11, Korean War

The books that I have are:
AWOL K-9 Commando
AWOL Musters Out
AWOL the Courier

There are a couple of others

Not to many "Bob, Son of Battle" or "Rin Tin Tin" books out there about Dobes.

Just thought I would throw this out there in case anyone was interested in a novel about our breed

Hi John, thanks for throwing this out there like 5 yrs ago! I just recently became aware of these books, because there was one listed at the DPCA auction. I started searching online for any of these books, and - there you were! If you find any or no of any for a good price, pass it on if you would.

LOL Bonnie...

Seems nobody was interested 5 years ago!

I love sharing books. Lord knows I have enough...

PM or email me your address and I will send you "AWOL The Courier". Published in 1951. Its a hard bound edition. I have a couple others, but I can't find them right now. Maybe after you read it, you could pass it on to another interested DT member (MEL??? MEL???)

It takes place in Korea in 1950. AWOL is a senior, still takin' names and kickin' A$$

Let me know!

My mom got me a kid's book about a Dobe in WWII and I hated the ending... so I'm always a little hesitant with war books about dogs.

Hey John,

I've been looking (casually) for those books since some time in the 60's heard about them from a breeder (who didn't have them when I had my first Dobe.

Sort of forgot about then by the time the internet came along (I was relying on a friend in Seattle who managed a bookstore to dig around and see if she could find any copies for me. She found one of the but by the time I contacted the seller the book he had was long gone.

I'd love to be on the list of whoever is gettilng your copy for the use of it.

Same here 79 ! I was reading about a guy that had a Dob. in WWII in the Pacific , The Japanese's put a bounty out on them ( Dob's ) They were sleeping in a fox hole when the Dob woke them up - he heard them coming and awoke the handler - Long story short - the Dob was KIA and the handler jumped up with his machine gun and fought over well meaning numbers of Japanese's and saved his unit - which he was awarded the metal of Honor ! The Handler said he was NOT a hero ! He was so pizzed at losing his Dob - he jumped up and was going to kill them all for killing his best friend ! He said , still today - he thinks about that dog .

Like you -I just quit reading about there stories .

John, I got my book today! That was quick. Looks brand new and I am just delighted to have it. Thank you, thank you! See it really pays to be a part of DobermanTalk. You meet the nicest people and come up with the best info and then surprises like this that you never knew about.
Still hoping we get to meet each others families up in the North Country this summer.

I'm reading a couple of search and rescue type series right now on my kindle -
One is: The flint K-9 Search and Rescue books by Jen Blood - I'm reading the second one right now: Inside the Echo

The other is: FBI K-9 Novels by Sara Driscoll - Just read the second in the series last week: Before It's Too Late

They are both pretty good with a female main character..... but probably plenty of interest for men (sorry guys - LOL)
