Perineal Hernia anyone?

Has anyone had experience with this, especially the surgery? I think Reggie might have a small one to the right side of his rectum. I am very concerned at how serious they can become. Needless to say tomorrow we will go to the doctor.
I'll let ya know what they have to say.

/facepalm

So, my Reggie dear does indeed have a hernia. He is in surgery now because his bladder was slipping to the side of his butt. I don't know how he herniated it but I am guessing it was his excessive grass consumption. He was always plugged up and straining from all of the grass.
The doctors say it's part strain, part hormonal... therefore they have to perform a neuter on him. I am very happy that I had him collected/frozen last year.
This has been REALLY stressful. I hate seeing him in pain and also hate putting him through surgery.
Please keep him in your thoughts. The dogs are my babies and I am a seriously worried mom.

Oh no! What a stressful and upsetting thing to go through. I'm glad you caught it and got him to the vet.

You are both in my thoughts. Keep us posted on how he's doing.

My poor Reggie. He had the surgery yesterday to correct the hernia. I saw him as he was coming out of anestesia but he didn't recognize me. He looked good and even stood up in his fuzzy-headed drug induced state.
Fast forward this morning and we get a phone call from the hospital saying that he has to stay another day. Because his bladder was retroflexing into the hernia it was irritated and swollen. He could not urinate on his own. They ran a catheter and relieved his bladder for him.
We were able to visit him today. Despite everything that has happened to him he was all wiggles and love. Matter of fact I thought he was too excited and was going to blow his sutures. We got him to calm down, gave him cookies, and he layed down across our laps for about an hour.
He didn't want us to leave but I really think it was the best decision just in case the NSAID doesn't work. That would mean another ER visit and new catheter.
Reggie's surgery site look horrible. However, I know how quickly these dogs heal and I will guess in two months you won't be able to tell that anything happened to him. (Aside from the fact that he now has no testicles) *sigh*
I will be so grateful to have him come home. He needs love and kisses He's such a smooch.

Get well soon. Its hard to leave them at the vet office overnight but it's often best. Went through that with my Cleo just a little over a week ago.

(((Reggie))))- no scaring your mom allowed!
This is very scary that grass & hormones could cause this.
