I'm no expert but I have never seen ears post op look like that. Hang in there Richard. Someone will be along that can answer all of your questions and concerns. Usually when ears are cropped at around 7 weeks the puppy is sent home with the ears on a cup with all the edges open to the air. Then when the edges are healed and scabs gone and the sutures out they will be posted. Just not sure about the plastic support that is sutured to the ear..... BTW cute puppy!! And everyone here likes lots of pictures of new puppies.

Thank you, I have also not seen ears posted like this before him and only seen the cup but hopefully everything is well there is no signs of infection or no fowl smells so hopefully everything goes well he goes back in two weeks , there is scabbing occurring but I think that’s normal... right?

Yes, getting scabs on the cut edges is normal. Those will dry up and fall off. Hang in there because other members who know a LOT about ear crops will be here later today to help you and answer your questions. This is a good group of people. Psssst....remember we like pictures of your baby.

This is a new attempt to keep ears stabilized during healing but it looks clean--I really don't like to see even the small amount of tape that covers only the very tip of the sutures edge of the ear but as long as no infection develops there I'd leave it alone--at least you can see exactly what's going on because it looks like there is only one layer of a breathable tape (probably Zonas) on the tips. And I'm not crazy about suturing anything to support the ear while it's healing--but--I wouldn't want that plastic strip in place once the ears are healed and can be posted.

Scabs are normal on the cropped edge of the ear. Leave them alone and when healing in complete they'll fall off. Don't pick at them. When are you supposed to go back to have the sutures removed? Just a word of caution--don't let them tell you to post the ears (or let them do it) when they remove the sutures--it is very rare to find a newly cropped puppy ready to post when the sutures come out--that usually happens between 7 and 10 days and generally the ears are not fully healed and need anywhere from another week or more for the healing to be complete.

Did you see pictures of other crops this vet has done?

I'm also not crazy about the tape covering the edges of the ear. I'd be watching VERY carefully for signs of infection. Typically newly cropped ears shouldn't be "posted" like that and the edges should not have anything on them at all because of the risk of infection.
