Large White Bump, black head on tail. Please help identify

Hello,

So tonight our boy was biting at his tail more than usual so I took a look and found this large lump size of my pinky nail. It is white with a jet black tip, looks almost like a sting since it's a circle black pin spot on top.

At first I thought It was a tick. Anyone have any ideas? Sorry the image size was too large and I'm not sure how to reduce it to fit so I liked imgur

I tend to agree with the person who thinks it might be a bot fly larvae, aka cuterebra, which is a trip to the vet to have it removed.

Me too--vet trip. It doesn't look like a tick at all but there are a couple of things besides bot flies that will poke a hole in a dog (or cat) and lay an egg and when the egg hatches the victim spends most of their time trying make it stop feeling weird.

But they all pretty much require a vets services at least they have to sedate and numb the area to remove the larvae and often that's not good enough and they need to anesthetize.

Poor guy...

Update: went to the vet today and they immediately ruled out boy fly as its almost impossible in my location. He also studied some in the Caribbean where it was much more common. Vet said he feels it's a sting or bite reaction especially with the black tip and swelling without any puss. Said give it a few days and see if it goes down and reevaluate.

Thanks everyone.
