Glad she is home and feeling better - always so scary with senior dogs when they don't feel well.

I did, but hopefully this is not your situation. My Caesar was diagnosed in May 2015 with a cancerous brain lesion. Within a month later, I came home from work, my husband said he couldn’t get him to eat or drink water. Having once two small kids and when they would get sick, I took a cold washcloth and gently pressed it all over Caesar’s head, muzzle, face, etc. After a little bit,got him to take some crushed ice, he always loved ice cubes. Took him to bed with me,and did this all nite when he was awake, at the same time I was quietly crying my eyes out. His cough rails, chest sounded so congested and he looked at me so helplessly. The next morning when I called our vet, she told me she thought it was time, sounded like pneumonia, a side effect of the cancer. We took him in, he had a high fever, difficulty breathing and the way he looked at us, trying to tell me it was okay. This was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.We stayed until the end and even longer, couldn’t believe he was gone. I’m hoping yours is just an infection. Sorry for the sad story.
Sending positive thoughts your way.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Her gagging is getting less and less. Only two short episodes today. Respiration rate down to 24 and temperature 101. She is still eating but not enthusiastically. Vet said probably from the antibiotics. Poops are good. So far no pudding poops from the meds! YAY!

Hoping this trend continues.

Thanks for the update Dax--glad to hear about the improvement..

The oxygen kennels they had her in at the ER were one of our additions to our huge big remodel that started in March and is (thank heavens) almost finished. But we put in two oxygen kennels either of which will take dogs bigger than Dobermans--huge improvement for the patients from the assemble as necessary version we had before.

MILEY UPDATE:

Improving each day. Repiration rate at 24, temp at 100, and yesterday only 6 gagging episodes compared to 12 the day before and day only 1 so far.

Bad news is her eating habits are getting worse (Ken feel your pain). This morning she barely ate any of her kibble and wet food but did eat some chicken and rice so she had food with her pills. Back to being picky about treats also. Just a bit of a background on her: Her mom always said she was a picky eater but I was determined to figure her out and have her eating regularly. Her mom would put her kibble out and hope she would eat it at some point and then feed her chicken all day. So when I got her, I started adding wet food with her kibble in the morning and her favorite chicken and brother with her kibble at her evening meal and that really did the trick. She was eating everything regularly and very enthusastically. She was even fussy about some treats at the beginning but was now eating any treats I gave her. Still not a veggie or fruit eater but would eat green beans. Sometimes she would eat banana and other times not. But, we had her all figured out and now we are back to square one. Damn antibiotics! But on a good note, he poops are good. No pudding poops from the meds! YAY to that!

Well, it's really good news that she's doing so much better!

With a sick dog, you gotta feed what they'll eat. Will she eat her kibble if you soak it in a little chicken broth? That's helped my dogs when they are coming off of feeling ill....just that little extra flavor seems to help, plus I know that it helps with hydration. I use the low sodium kind so they are getting too much salt. Just one idea if you're trying to get more kibble in her.

Glad she's better!

You could also try adding some warm water to the canned food, to make it more like a gravy, and see if that helps.

Glad to hear that Miley is doing better Dax , but also hate to her about the eating problems . One thing i have done , with some success, is let her bang her water bowl for awhile , then put a small amount of food to one side of the bowl and then pour in a juice of a no salt green beans . Most times if she gets picky , I pour it all over the food and then she goes to town , today , even the hungry pill failed !

Best of luck Dax

Btw , when are you posting up that picture of your hair ?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. She ate some wet food this afternoon for her 2 p.m. pills. Tonight there was no eating any kibble even with broth and chicken on top which she usually enhails. So I just made up some chicken, brother, and rice and she did finally eat that. Also, ate the rest of her burger that hubby brought home for her. So at least she has eaten something to take her evening pills. Going to call the vet tomorrow for some suggestions from them. Also, going to pick up some ground turkey and make that up and see if she will eat that and need to get some more wet food. She seems to really like the Pro Plan Savor wet food.

Only my hairdresser knows for sure! LOL!

MILEY UPDATE:

Friday she only had two gagging/coughing episodes and yesterday only two. Respiration rate was 20 yesterday and temp 100.01. So all good signs. Eating is still a challenge but I did manger to get her to eat some kibble soaked in chicken and brother. Made her ground turkey on Friday mixed with rice and she is liking that. She will eat canned food so that is her meal at 2:00 when she has to take the one antibiotic. But still fussy about things she used to eat and now won't. Hopefully, when the antibiotics are completed, she will revert back to her normal self eating wise. She is more active and actually pulled a toy out of the basket yesterday for the first time. So that is good. Trip to the vet tomorrow for another xray. Fingers crossed! Thanks everyone for your good thoughts.

MILE UPDATE: Our prayers have been answered! No tumor! I am so so relieved. The xrays are so much better. Still some stuff there but the vet was able to see clearer edges. So we stay on the antibiotics until the are completed. He didn't feel we needed another round but I need to keep an eye on her vitals each day. She was like a puppy at the vet. After she had the xray, she drug the tech down the hall the our room! Thanks everyone for all your well wishes and prayers! They certainly helped.
