Affordable Holters

I recently moved to Southern Oregon and am trying to find an affordable holter option. None of the vets in my area seem to own holters and would just be renting them, and then charging me a lot extra for a consultation and work up.

NCSU recently doubled their rental cost to $275 and Mass. Vet Cardiology looks like they charge about $227 to rent. Does anyone know if this is currently the best price/option? Or, if you're in Southern Oregon, do you know of any affordable local options?

TIA.

I saw the WSU holter and was considering driving up there for that. Don't know if it would be any less expensive if I went and picked it up, rather than having it shipped?

The nearest (only?) Dobe club seems to be by Portland; I've reached out to them as well.

Thanks Scorning.

Not really "in the area" -- about 5 hours away in Portland. I've reached out to them about renting theirs. I believe they require club membership to rent, and membership requires attendance at monthly meetings ... so it would be tricky, but possibly doable, depending on when their meetings are held.

Good--I was pretty sure that was the case. If you need a member to sign the application I'll do that for you but I'm not sure you even need that for an associate membership.

You are just too late for this summer clinic--it's June 3 and I believe that one filled very early but there will be another in late November or early December. And if you just need a Holter you can do that any time after you become an associate member.

I always get a good laugh when someone moves to the Pacific Northwest with Dobermans and discovers that Washington, Oregon and British Columbia has a bunch of great breeders.

And this isn't something new. It's been a poorly kept secret all the way back to when I bought my very first Dobe.

When my first dog was being specialed by his breeder and was doing very well in both the states and Canada without much showing except local shows and not advertising at all. I had moved to Sacramento and California was Doberman central on the West Coat then--1960's--the Dobe folk knew I had a special who was in Seattle but none of them had ever seen him--a few of the handlers had. I had been chatting with a breeder had had bred some very nice Dobes and he said that he'd like to see my dog come down to California because all of these specials who could win in their back yards didn't do diddly trying to show against the kind of competition that we saw at every show in any part of California.

A couple of days later I got a call from the breeder/handler and he asked me if it was true that breeders were saying he didn't show our dog in California because he wasn't good enough to win. I said yeah but that was just that breeders style. It eveidently didn't sit well and later in the summer I got a call saying that he and Marc were coming down for Sacramento and Yuba City (this was also pre circuits and the Sacramento and Yuba City show were kind of the end of the summer season big shows in NorCal.

So they came down and took two Group 1's--and lost BIS to the top winning Min Pin in the country. At the Yuba City show the Sacramento breeder came around and said he'd like to meet the breeder and see if he could maybe set the dog up. He did and he could and sent his very nice Ch bitch to my dog on her next season. Later when I went over to see the puppies at 3 weeks or so he said "I should probably apologize to you and the breeder and the dog--but I never expect novice owners to know anything."

He always asked the same question any time he saw me--"Have you learned anything yet?"
