Hope HOSS gets better...how old is he ?

Former Amy yelped on the couch, about 4 times once (favoring her neck) / when wife was out with her sisters.
- we did an emergency Vet visit ASAP, on a closed Saturday evening
- not our regular Vet, this one was clueless / but knew how to charge $450

Went back Monday, for the acupuncture & chiropractor adjustment / she typically had stiff neck & tight hip joints, so he pulled them out and she regained more flexibility.
- the good acupuncture & chiropractor visits, repeated 3-4x per year...typically $125-150 each time (guess) / did last 3 years of her life
- the neck pain yelping, only occurred that one night...at around 9 y/o....exact reason, still a mystery

Our Vet surgeon (35 years experience) is certified in acupuncture & chiropractor, and came highly recommended,
by a top Holistic Vet....he also works on expensive race horses, and luckily was in the next town over.

EDIT
Feel Hoss for hot spots (inflammation), top of back, on spine, etc...Holistic Vet found some on Amy, when young.

Almost noon here is Florida. As I expected physical exam didn’t result in to much....mov’in Forward with MRI of head and spine. Just got to know IF anything is there that I need to deal with....also had them run thyroid testing since they were doing labs anyway.
Nice facility called SCAN located in Sarasota Florida.....one stop shopping....several neurologists and they house their own MRI machines so not having to travel anywhere else.....probably be divorced later today LOL......just spent $3000 in total ....the mri alone was $1200....YIKES!!! So much for that trip to California....LOL ..so now I sit and wait....3 studies in front of hoss’s.

In total sympathy with the $$$$$, Di. But, what was the other $1800 for?
Was it just an evaluation? Did he give you any idea what he thought it might be? Like, injury, arthritis, wobblers?
These things drive me crazy as I remember the conrfusion we were in at the time and I am feeling for you.
Are you able to get the MRI right away?
So sorry you are going through this.

The other charges are for anesthesia, reads, whole list of things involved with the procedure.

No was not sure until imaging is done. Hoss resisted having his head shifted up or shifted to down towards chest. Right left motion was fine. Thought to young for wobblers (hoss turned two this past December) But he is looking for malformations or lesions from head to tail....I will send item bill later for your view ....

Ok.
Yeah, I am sure prices are different across the country. Duggan had to have his MRI at the University Hosp. The vets didn't have their own facility and machine for that. It was $1200 for MRI and then the
radiologist to read it was $250. They were able to read it right there after the test. CVI is usually a problem between the C4-C5 disc. (I think I am remembering that correctly) and Duggans was at the
C6-C7 disc which ruled out Wobblers.

Also, I remember with CVI (Wobblers) the vet said they dog always had problem lifting the head up.

Hope all is well. I know that the $$ for diagnostics is hard to swallow, but you really can't begin to know what to do until you know what is wrong.

Well I have returned to earth..thanks for all the prayers. Not all results in yet but the good news is MRI confirms no malformations,no wobblers. SO NO SURGERY REQUIRED!!!!! Yeah...............what a roller coaster ride of emotions.....they performed spinal tap since he was asleep for the MRI......Hoss .should have ( I think this is the right word) proteins at 3 to 4....hoss was at 34.....so since we should have 3-4 Neuro sent spinal fluid out to find out what the other “counts shall we say” are......those results will be in ..in a fe w days. Dr Cook the neuro doc reads his own MRI but also sent out for 2 other radio to read I he thought he noted a boney protrusion at the base of Hoss scull...he thought maybe this was poking the spinal cord...but the read was determined as normal.....MRI run from head to tail ..all kinds of differ slices taken ....the other two radio found during their reads 2 things........a couple of nerves that were inflamed which might impact The spinal fluid count and a mass of muscle tissue that surround his neck noted as chronically inflamed...be the second cause for the yelping......so now waiting for path to confirm he spinal fluid counts....and hopefully the treatment plan will be steroids to deal with muscle inflammation for a short time. Also did a thyroid screening and that came back abnormal....doc said ..”low”........so evidentially hoss needs something stronger that Gallivant (non steroid anti-inflammatory” for a bit....whew...

I'm delighted to hear this...I hope you get the rest of the results soon (it's so dang hard to wait) and that it's all easy to fix stuff that's going on.

Probably the least of your worries, but low thyroid is really common in dobes...fortunately the meds, even though they need to be given daily, are fairly inexpensive.

Di - so glad to hear this report. It is such a relief for you to know something...and us. I was worried. Glad to hear no surgery. I will be curious to know the final diagnosis.
So much to learn with these dogs. By the time we are 90 we may be experts.

Thanks for not blowing me away on my lack of communication last night.....the neuro called 5pm eastern time with the details. Fortunately I was able to record each of our conversations with Neurologists (with his permission of course ) was able to video to the presntation of his MRI. Things are looking up for Hoss.
