Unhappy oh no parvo!!

Well I took Loki to the vet yesterday and he has Parvo! I am so sad for him but he should be just fine! Luckily hes got a lot of good things going for him but hes only 11 weeks old and i hate to see him so sad. He has been on an antibiotic for a week and a half now because when I took him in to get his ears done his white blood cell count was really high so they didnt do the surgery and put him on some meds, well he came into contact with parvo that same day.. the meds they put him on are the same they use to treat parvo just not as strong so he didnt super sick. Im rather tired today, i bleached my whole house yesterday.. man i haven't cleaned like that in forever lol!! So Im waiting for a call from the vet to hear how his night went, I'll keep you all posted on how hes doing! Hope every one has a great weekend!!

Keep us posted. How did he come into contact with Parvo? Did you put him in contact with someone's dog who was positive? Was there Parvo at the vet's and they didn't properly seperate. If that's the case I'd be PISSED!!! Parvo isn't just some casual problem. I wish him a speedy recovery.

I took Loki to my friends house last tuesday and her dog had parvo.. i wasnt aware of this or we wouldnt have gone near them(my friend had no idea her dog had parvo either, they had been at the lake all weekend-where her dog got the parvo- and they just thought their dog was "tired" from the lake). I called my friend on monday to tell her how weird Loki was acting and thats when she told me her dog had parvo..kinda wish she woulda told me sooner!! I've been calling the vet every day since tuesday and finally yesterday they had me bring him in. He was throwing up and had diarehha(sp) but was still happy and running around so they thought it could have been his meds since his shots were up to date but even yesterday he was still running around and happy, but got very skinny. no one wanted to beleive he had parvo.. even when we got to the vet yesterday she was shocked he had it she said " he sure doesnt act like hes got it, thats the most active dog ive seen thats had parvo" so every one trust your gut when you think some thing is wrong!!

Parvo

I am so sorry to hear that Loki has parvo. It is a terrible terrible virus. I hope he recovers quickly. Because it is usually rampant in Missouri I now give all my puppies the neo par shot which is a live vaccine and have never had a break through. Regular puppy shots are a dead kill vaccine so not near as effective. I know several people who have had a break through when counting on just the regular puppy shot to protect the puppy. At best they are only 75% effective. Pretty scarey when added to the fact that you can pick it up virtually anywhere so have not sure way of knowing were the puppy picked it up.

I know what you are going through. I have 3 puppies I kept out of my litter, when they went to get their ears cropped, I think they contracted parvo at the vet's office. I had 2 of the 3 got it. My female never got parvo. At the time we had already had 2 rounds of vaccines in them. I know what you mean by cleaning your house. I was up all night the night before with one of them then had to clean the house after leaving him at the emergency vets. It is heartbreaking to see them so sick. My babies are great now. They came through great so I hope a speedy recovery for your little one.

Looks like he should be able to come home monday! He getting better every day but still having some issues, still bad stools but he hasnt thrown up since early friday morning, they havent tried to give him food, hopefully tomorrow he'll eat. I think they said they were going to feed canned food, does any one know how long he'll need to be on canned food? probably just depends i guess... my daughter(almost 2 years old) keeps looking for him every where, she cant say "loki" lol but shes getting close, its just so sad/cute to watch her looking around.
