Losing weight/sick, or just growing?

Zeus is a 13 month old intact male, about 26.5" tall, and is currently sitting at 65.5 lbs.

Around 2 months ago, his weight was sitting between 75 - 80 lbs and looked quite healthy, but now his ribs and spine are very noticeable.

He's being fed Blue Buffalo, but we switched him from large breed puppy to large breed adult because he had loose stool for quite a long time. We cut out all treats and had him just on the puppy kibble for a month to make sure it wasn't caused by anything other than the kibble.

He's had his deworming pills, is up to date on his shots, and when we did a stool sample everything came back normal.

He's fed 2.5 cups of kibble three times a day, doesn't vomit, and has had solid stool since switching to the adult food.

Would love any insight or tips.

I agreed to check with the vet.

Assuming he's physically healthy, depending on how much exercise he's getting and how many calories are in the food, you might need to make some adjustments. If his diarrhea was bad and constant for a while, it can cause growing dogs to lose weight very fast

When switching foods, always mix the two gradually together before switching him completely. If he has a sensitive stomach you could start adding canned pure pumpkin to help avoid some of that

i continually read that dogs around that age seem to have difficulty keeping weight on, especially if a bitch in heat is anywhere nearby. ABSOLUTELY have him seen by a vet, though.

I am the sea witch. I am the tide you fear and the turning you can't deny. I am the sound of the waves running over your bones on the beach, little man, and I am not amused at finding you on my doorstep.

I have recently been going through a similar thing with Juneau (13 month unaltered male), except his is because he just doesn't feel like eating. Definitely get the vet check for teeth, blood work, etc.... Juneau is just a shade over 27" and has held steady at 78 pounds, which looks pretty lean on him. 2.5C 3x/day seems like a lot of food to be losing weight. June only gets 2C dry and 2 cans tripe or freeze dried food every day, which has been enough for him to not lose any weight and keep his energy up. FWIW, when I first got June at 15 weeks I had him on Blue Buffalo large breed puppy and he had terrible diarrhea and lost weight.
