I started a thread like this a while ago, with Burns posting a really neat video of her brushing Red's teeth. You should do a search for the thread, if only just to watch the awesome video lol
Back to the original question ... i try to do it at least a couple of times a week, though i have been lax lately
No, no, no, why are you apologizing? Threads on similar subjects get started over and over all the time, which is actually a good thing because the post turnover is so high on this board, and there are always new members all the time, so there's always discussion going on on topics of interest!
Plus, you set up a poll too and i never did, statistics are always interesting!
Ok those videos are awesome. Red is such a sweet guy, but the cat video ... that blew my mind. Lawless (one of our cats) would have ripped Burns face off! We have to sedate him before he visits the vet. And even sedated he's pretty much a safety hazard. (Poor black cat was rescuted as a kitten around Halloween in Salem, Mass -- the witch capital of the US. Who knows what people did to him!)
Marvelgirldobe, Titus (the brown tabby cat in the video) actually LOVES having his teeth brushed, and actually begs for it every night. I've got him brainwashed into thinking its the best treat in the world. And you might be shocked to see what he is like at the vet - here is a short video...

I used to brush Jack's teeth a few times a week. More if he got into "kitty roca". YUCK breath!!!! He would run outside through the dog door but would stand there as I approached, toothbrush in hand. He even let me brush his tongue! A small price for him to pay to eat cat #$!*
Voted for once in a blue moon, but I brush every month or at least twice a month. Looking at other dogs teeth at the dog park even inspires me more to brush her teeth. Some dogs teeth are hideous :| OMFG! I can't stand dirty dog teeth.
ps. I lost Kleos toothpaste so I haven't brushed in a while now rofl bad bad daddy :nana:
i have never brushed there teeth !! they chew on lots of raw bones and this seems to do the trick.. also there are only so many hours in a day.. id never fit it all in with training, walking biking etc..
plus someone told me once.. if ya dont wipe there butt.. why should you clean there teeth ?? LMAO
I brush *******'s teeth about once a month. But she also gets lot's of raw meaty bones that keep the tarter down. After owning a Greyhound I am forever watchful of tarter problems!
Diesel doesn't mind having them brushed, it's actually kind of funny. If I don't do at least once a week, he reminds me I forgot, because he is rubbing his gums along the carpet. As soon as I brush, he stops.
The only teeth I need to brush are the canines. Even though I feed raw and give meaty recreational bones, the outside of the canines don't stay as clean as the molars/pre molars. I brush them as needed, which isn't too often - maybe a couple of times a month.
Hugo chews on raw bones too but we will brush his teeth once a week. Worried Hugo will has bad breath coz i love kissing him. He loves the smells of toothpaste and keeps licking the toothpaste... lolzz.....
Even if you don't regularly feed raw, turkey necks do an awesome job of keeping the teeth clean. When we started feeding raw our vet asked if we'd started brushing. Right now per hubby's request we're not feeding 100% raw but I do give turkey necks here and there.
I feed raw but Becka rarely chews her food well enough to get a good cleaning. She just always seems to have a dirty mouth so I go over them once every couple weeks, clean them up and they're beautiful for a while again. Reichen has gorgeous, big, white teeth and I'll give them a swipe when I do Becka's but there is definitely not much to do. I don't like to brush to often as their gums bleed.
I like to give marrow bones but they have each broken teeth (Reichen broke that huge molar in the back, the root was exposed so I had to get it removed for over 450 dollars) so I don't give them as often as I used to.
I brush theo's teeth 2-3 times a week. He gets a treat before and after brushing. i've been brushing theo's teeth since he was very young so it really doesn't bother him.
I feed theo dry food. Hopefully, we can change over to raw in the near future.
Yes after every meal and at night I floss them just before I put pajamas on them and read them stories. ................Knuckle Bones, Meaty & Large!! Von.
Sweetie just had a dental cleaning done and she is only 3 1/2 yrs old - she had gingavitis and plaque. They had to put her under general anaesthesia, so if I can avoid that in the future I will.
From now on I am brushing her teeth a few times a week, giving her dental kibble as treats daily, and she also gets knuckle bones and these special dental sticks from the vet. Apparently dental problems can cause a lot of other health problems, heart problems and infections, especially as the dog gets older.
Max has bright shiny white teeth. I have brushed them a couple times just to see what he would do. I have to brush my other dogs. He seemed to like it.
Jersey and I go for a walk before breakfast every day... and I don't like to leave the house without brushing my teeth... so every morning I brush my teeth and then I call her in, she gets hers brushed, and then we go for our walk. She likes to get them brushed because that means the next thing is ...WALKIES!
